I solved my vision problems by obtaining a set of optivisors, I find them invaluable....

Optivisors

To make the marking guage I sanded the edge of a strip of planking and checked the width of the strip with the use of a set of digital calipers....

Calipers

thanks Alan, i used to have great eyesight but age has took its toll, anything close is just a blur lol, anyway i made the gauge as per your instructions, i have a digital caliper and it worked out nicely, i also just made a gunport template from some spare ply, when i measure with the calipers i get 11.9mm x 11.7mm do you think this would still be usable, im thinking that by the time i have drawn around it i will can a small amount[ if its exactly 12mm i would get a 12.3mm hole possibly]larger than needed

Age has caught up with me too so know what you mean. I've just had my eyes tested and was entitled to a second pair of glasses for free, from a company I won't name.....BigGrin BigGrin .. Spoke to the optician and he made my second pair a lot stronger and these I use now for all the close work, no need for the optivisors. Can't wear them for anything else but then again, I don't walk around the house with optivisors on either.... Solution works for me and I find it more practicable....Cool Cool

Your gun port template should be ok as long as the template is not a tight fit after you've cut the ports out.....

Regards

Alan
