Hello All, Thanks for the good comments. Issue 90 continued: - Red, blue and gold details added to the trophy of arms Issue 91 continued: - bowsprit spars and boomkins dressed with rigging blocks - blocks added to knightheads - catheads and brackets sanded to sit on hull nicely - catheads partially assembled and painted yellow, brackets painted black - started to make the ekeing rails, with I had a little problem. When, as usual, I soaked into hot water and then started to bend them with electric plank bender, one of the three layers of the laminated wood peeled off... ... I guess the glue between the layers "melted" due to the hot water/bender... I sweared a little bit that what a silly idea to make a part from laminated wood which require bending... then I realised that it's actually quite handy because if I bend it to the required curve and while curved I glue back the layers together with superglue, then it will actually keep in in this bent form, it doesn't require to be held until the wood dries out... ... anyhow, rails bent and trimmed to correct length - catheads and rails masked for adding the blue details - first coat of blue applied gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Hello Everyone, Thank for the good comment, much appreciated. Issue 90 completed: - trophy of arms glued in position - decorative mouldings bent, painted and fitted Issue 91 completed: - ekeing rails, catheads and brakets fitted - I decided that I won't add the stern davits to the model Mast rigging from Issue 92 skipped, I'll do all rigging after the hull is completely finished. Issue 93 started: - I start with an extra detail, which I saw in couple of build diaries. I'll add fire buckets to the poop deck forward rail. As few of you, I had a look online (Cornwall Modelboats mainly) what is available on the market. Although there are some in the correct size, but I didn't like the shape of them (e.g. DaDokta's build, for me they look too tall compared to their diameter, also the wall thickness seems too thick). So I asked my friend to print them on a 3D printer. Started with 5mm but I found them too large, so the final size is 4.2mm height and 4.0mm diameter (top). - Then I done some trials on the gold painting. On the first one the details painted directly onto the plastic (left), the second was sanded smooth to remove the 3D print layer marks, then sprayed with black to make it even smoother for the painting (right)... the second one looks much better, due to the smooth surface it’s easier to make the detailed gold painting. I think it's ready for mass production. - 24 buckets prepated for spraying, probably only 16-18 will be required but I added some for spare. - jig made for the hammock cranes for the painting - they sprayed primer and black Display cabinet side project:- nylon rod arrived, I'll turn the rolling drums from it with a lathe to wind the ropes - mild steel rods arrived, they are for the shafts gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Fantastic update yet again Gingerale. You either have the patience of a saint or incredible eyesight to paint those fire buckets

Beautifully done, you must have a real steady hand to be able to paint the bucket detail, looks fab.... Regards Alan

Ahoy Shipmates, Thanks for the great comments. Yes, it does require a very steady hand to paint the buckets, luckily I got it. Issue 93 continued: - the gold details added to all buckets. I'm very pleased with the result, when I started I did not expect that it will turn out this good. - little hooks made from 0.5mm black copper wire for the buckets to hang onto. - hooks glued onto poop deck forward rail - cranes glued to rail behind quarterdeck opening and to poop deck forward rail. I left the little pip on the bottom of the cranes and drilled 0.6mm shallow holes on the rails. This adds a bit more stability to the cranes. - I replaced the brass wire with natural thread for the hammock nets - hammock nets sewn onto the threads gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Hi All, I'm pleased with all your good comments, thank you. Yes Walter, I took some inspiration, ideas from your build, I think you replaced the wire with thread on the hammock nets. I also remember someone leaving the pips on the hammock cranes to fix in place easier, but I can't remember in who's diary I saw it. Further inspiration (copy) from DaDokta's (Walter) build: - handrails made, stained and fitted to quarterdeck companion way ladder. Issue 93 continued: - hammock cranes, ropes added to both side of the rear quarter deck - nets added to one of them Thanks for all your ideas/hints in your diaries, which I can use on my build. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Ahoy Shipmates, After a little holiday break back to the ship building business. Issue 93 continued:- further hammock nets made on the quarterdeck Custom buckets:I trialled some handle buckets (from left to right): - 0.5mm black wire glued to the lip of the bucket - 0.5mm black wire glued inside the bucket - 0.25 mm black wire glued inside the bucket I still undecided that which one I will chose. I'm open for your opinions, although I know that at the end it's my personal preference. Display cabinet project: - breaded nylon rope arrived. I'll do some load test. It's claimed that the break load is 500 kgs, so I think I'll be on the safe side, the load will be approx 12-14 kgs on each rope one cabinet completed. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building!
