hello there does any know the best way to make the alignment gage for marking the first row of gun ports on page 131 part 1, ever time I try to make one by bending where the marks are six planks wide as shown they break on me Ronald

Another way for you to do it is Take a plank longer than the 6 planks. get 4 off cuts glue one on top of each other . leaves you with 2 pieces. Now glue one to one end of the plank then the other 6 planks gap. you can then use that as a gauge.
Other than that way , if you have an electric plank bender then bend the peice as described in the instructions and it shouldn't break.

thanks Chris that idea is pretty good but I was trying both the crimping tool and the iron idea I might have been pushing to hard but also not knowing where to apply the bend as well Ronald

Hi Ronald, you may find this video clip helpful for you. It shows the correct way to use a crimping tool.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-FJQZlLMhU

Hi Alan or anyone since I am on the subject of marking the lines for the first row of gun ports and I know the video and most probable the instructions as well would tell me to sand the whole model after the bottom has been planked but I was wondering if I can sand the first six planks to make it easy to mark the lines since the a few planks are a little uneven or should I just mark the lines anyway and wait till the sanding is called for- thank you Ronald

You can give it a light sanding but wouldn't do any more than that until you get the lower hull covered....

Alan
