Was there any reason that they used such bright colours on the ship?

Thanks to all who looked in, appreciated……. @RobT-must admit Rob its been very warm up here too but not too warm in the evenings to get some modelling done. As for the bright colours, can't say for definite why the real ship is painted so vividly, the colours certainly grow on you as the build progresses..... Regards Alan

Onto the next stage and this was the continuance of working on the bow area. Started by taking a 2x5mm strip and cutting 8 triangles 5mm wide by 5mm high, then painted them with our usual red. These were then glued either side of the four forward gun ports. Took a 2x2mm strip and cut 16 pieces each 5mm high, from these the 16 timberheads were shaped. These were painted red and fitted using the measurements provided within the instructions, 8 on each side of the bow area. Back to the 2x5mm strip, cutting two pieces 5x5mm in size. One side of each piece was then rounded off, painted red and glued on either side of the bowspit opening. This brought an end to stage 44 so until next time, happy modelling.... Hi Alan,
She's coming on beautifully now. Have to agree that the colours are certainly striking and definitely make for an eye-catching build. (one day soon maybe I'll have the incentive to continue with my build, but in the meantime, I'm enjoying following yours).

Moving forward, this stage started with the cutting of 14 x 15mm lengths from a 1mm brass rod, ensuring the ends were perfectly flat. These were then primed and painted matt black and inserted into the rails either side of the bow area, secured in place with a drop of superglue. Cut 2 x 121mm length from a 1 x 3mm wooden strip, sanded smooth and rounded off each end. Soaked the strips in hot water for a few minutes and with the use of an electric plank bender applied a bend in the strips to match the profile of the brass rods fitted in the previous step. Two coats of dark woodstain was then applied to the strips and left to dry. Once dry the strips were then attached to the tops of the brass rods and secured with a drop of superglue. This brought an end to stage 45 so until next time, happy modelling all.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Looking good Alan. Cutting and/or filing a square end on brass wire can be a pain and time consuming. For my C57 build I purchased a wire guillotine that has an adjustable stop so all pieces are the same length and cuts with a square end. Not cheap but time saving and much more accurate than a pair of wire cutters. Continuing with the build and in this stage we assemble the foremast fife rails... Started by taking a 3x3mm strip and cutting 4 lengths of 13mm, the tops of the pieces were then shaped following the measurements provided in the instructions. Took a 2x2mm strip and cut a section for the cross beam, then painted all these pieces red. Took 2 of the uprights and glued cross piece in place ensuring everything was square. Glued the rail into position. Cut the laser cut fife rail from its fret and sanded the edges smooth, again painted this red. Glued the fife rail to the 2 remaining posts and ensured everything was square. Next, too a length of 0.8mm brass rod and cut 9 lengths each of 7mm, filed the ends flat and glued them into the fife rail with a drop of superglue. Primed the pins and painted a wood colour. Once dried the completed assembly was then glued in position. This finished stage 46 so until next time, happy modelling all..... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):
