I think a build your own laser machine would be a good idea. It could be very simular to the idbox 3d printer.

I'd say that won't be a possibility. Anything to do with lasers would probably not be taken up as a partwork for the same reason that, despite how hard some of us might wish, they won't do replicas from film or TV of any sort of weapon. It could be misused. Even the low power 'laser pen' or 'laser pointer' can cause trouble for aircraft. Anything that would be high powered enough to do anything such as cutting would be a risk they could not take.
