Found some time so thought I'd try and move this one forward a little more. In this stage we move on to creating the foremast pulley. Started by taking a 4x6mm wooden strip ensuring the end was cut square. Marked two lines all the way around the strip, 2 and 4mm down from the to, then used a small round file to shape a groove all the round the strip between the marked lines. Next step was to shape the top of the pulley using a sanding block. Followed the measurements set out in the instructions and marked out the position of the rigging holes ready for drilling. Drilled the six 1mm holes, the best way I find to do this is to mark out the hole positions on both sides of the strip then drill half way through from each side. Once done gave the piece a light sanding over to smooth then cut the pulley off the strip, 14mm from the top. Painted the pulley red and glued into position as per the measurements given within the instructions. This completed stage 47, next is the assembly of the first deck winch (capstan). In this stage we assemble the First Deck Winch (Capstan). Took the winch body and attached the 6 pre-formed supports. The supports needed to be lined up directly under the holes in the body where the handles fit. Once dry I then painted the winch with our favourite red.... .. When the red had dried I then painted the 3 round edges black. Took a 0.8mm brass rod, cut 6 lengths 17mm long and filed the edges to remove any burrs, these will be for the winch handles. Handles were then glued in place ensuring they were evenly spaced and all sitting at the same level. Once dried, the handles were then given a coat of primer before painting brown. Finally, glued the winch into position as shown in the instructions. This brings to an end stage 48 so until next time, happy modelling all.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

In this build stage we are required to assemble 4 stairways. Looked at the stairway sides which were pre-cut and here is where I encountered a problem. There just wasn't any way I could get two sides to match, meaning I would have ended up with some very wonky stairways. Only solution was to fabricate my own from 2x4mm wooden strips. Took a while as they kept breaking but eventually got there. Stairway sides were then painted red and left to dry. Cut 25 pieces of 1x5mm wooden strip for the treads, 5 pieces for each stairway. Glued the top and bottom tread onto the stairway sides ensuring the assembly was square, then left to dry. Once dried then inserted the remaining 3 treads, did this for the 4 stairways. Test fitted and adjusted the stairways for a good fit. Finally painted a 1mm dark brown strip along the bottom of each stairway side. When happy glued the 4 stairways in place. This completed build stage 49 so until next time, happy modelling all.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Thanks David, appreciated. The only way to resolve the issue was to construct my own ladder sides from 2x4mm wooden strips, either that or wait for replacements to arrive.... Regards Alan

hello Allan it looks exciting your "new project ship" yes that is the long time since i have looked in and then you were still on the Sovereign of the Seas. It seems you have come a long way since then. And what you build is fabulous

Jens. Thanks for the kind comments Jens, always appreciated... .. Modelling never stops, done a few things since SOTS and have lots more yet to do. Stash gets bigger, whether it will all get done is another matter.... .. Will keep at it though … Thanks again.. Regards Alan

Here we move onto creating the banisters that will sit either side of the bell tower. Started with a 2x2mm strip, painted it red and cut two 13mm, two 12.5mm and two 12mm lengths. Shaped the tops of the strips and touched up with red paint. Separated the two PE parts from the PE fret, cleaned up the edges and primed. Both sides then painted yellow and left to dry. Removed the pre-cut frame tops from the fret, sanded the edges smooth and painted red, then assembled the two banisters as per the instructions noting there is a slight slope to these. When fitted the slope will run from the centre of the deck out towards the hull sides. When the assemblies had dried fully they were then glued in place. From an 0.8mm brass rod, cut 8 lengths of 6mm, filed the ends flat then primed and painted black. Glued the lengths in place on top of the banisters noting the measurements given in the instructions. Took a length of 1x3mm strip, cut two pieces 24mm long, sanded smooth and rounded off the ends. Stained these with a dark woodstain then carefully glued these to the tops of the brass rods fitted in the previous step, following the slope. This brought stage 50 to an end and in the next stage we work on the bell tower. Until then, happy modelling all.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):
