Hello Everyone, so the reason I picked this particular build was because of the planking seen in the build diaries, compared to the victory or Sovereign of the seas, which looks a lot harder for a first time builder. I have included some old pictures of the USS Constitution, hoping to get a good view of the anchors and some features. TRalektra attached the following image(s):

I received pack 1 in a small box and I thought most of the wood would be broken, but to my surprise it was okay and only took 4 days to arrive.  However the keel at the front was bent.  I have been spending most of the past 4 days trying to straighten the keel up. What I have found that the wood would return to original shape within a couple of hours after removing it from the press. I soaked the keel in hot water for about an hour and put it in a press for 24hrs (did this twice already). I have requested replacement parts, but not sure if model space will send them in the next issue. So I placed the keel in a jig I am building as the ship develops. The front of the keel is glued to the best of my abilities in line with the top of the keel. If this fails, I have made an outline of the parts and will have to make the keel and frames from basswood. TRalektra attached the following image(s):

While this is drying and waiting to see if the keel is straight enough to continue. I worked on the anchors. First I removed all the join lines with a file and used the Dremel to sand them smooth. I have a lot of Warhammer 40k paints so I used Abaddon Black than Nuln oil to finish them off. Still looking into some weathering effects. TRalektra attached the following image(s):

Fully agree with you on the planking. Much easier with no pre soaking needed and very nice straight runs end to end. Hoping to get on and do some more of mine tomorrow. Happy Modelling

Thanks everyone for the support. I managed to fix the warp in the keel and glueing it into place helped alot.
Did the planking of lower deck and upper front part and will post some pics once dry.
For some reason the anchors really bother me. Might try and make or kit some out in wood and nails.

For the anchors I bought a period shank from amati and stock from a box of left overs. All that needs to be done now is paint and stain. TRalektra attached the following image(s):

Glad to be of help ,they may seem a little pricey but they last ages the 1st set I ever bought is now over 30 years old and still going strong. Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Nice start. Looking forward to seeing a fellow build. I also had a bit of problem with the plywood portions of the kit. It seems somewhat common with that sheet of plywood they use; however, everything else has been really great so far.

Thanks for the cheers Managed to finish the decks in pack 1 so far, even tried to experiment with deck bamboo nails. I am hoping that the stain will soak into the bamboo. Going to try soaking the bamboo sticks in tea for a while, to darken them up, the deck nails had some mixed results, see what happens. Picked up a couple of stains, walnut and light oak. The walnut stain seems to pick the detail in the planks, while the oak is more forgiving in terms of overstaining. Can anyone give me some tips on staining/diluting the stain and application. I also got some copper sulphate to darken the brass, no immediate results, mmaybe have to leave the brass parts soak overnight. TRalektra attached the following image(s):

Looking good, some people wet the wood to be stained first a bit like water colour artist wet the paper 1st so you dont get the blob of colour when the brush is first applied. If you want a more lighter finish you could try Danish oil after a couple of coats it gives a nice colour. With the copper sulphate it may need to be warmer for it to start the reaction placing the solution container in a bowl of hot water is another trick that some times helps it start working. Thankyou for those suggestions I will definitely look at Danish or linseed oil, I love the of walnut wood, but the stain seems a bit dark to me. The light oak looked about good, up to the builders taste I guess. I didn't have much luck with the copper sulphate, however I did read that adding ammonia to copper carbonate in warm water or left over night works well. Tried it out on some nails, rings and they turned black straight away, but took the shine off the fake brass. TRalektra attached the following image(s):
