All the wales have been fitted now, next comes the task of making up the template and drilling out the holes above the lower gun ports...fun fun...Blink

Slowly, but surely, she is coming together, and looking at the latest issues of HMS Victory (Issue 65) she is going to be one hell of a model and well worth every penny spent on her...BigGrin

The Rope Template in issue 43 has caused some confusion amongst some of us modellers including myself. I went about making a paper template as per instruction and put it to use, but I found that I had problems with either getting it correctly lined up or damaging the for holes in the paper template, which was most annoying...So I came up with this idea, a clear piece of 0.5mm plastic from any packaging, cut to size of 9mm x 40mm strip (as wide as the inner gun port), using a craft knife, gently score a line 9mm down from the top of the plastic... this you would use to lie up with the top of the gun port. pierce two holes exactly 7mm above that score mark, 6mm apart..make two more holes immediately above them at 8mm above the line. now offer the plastic rope template up to your model and being able to see through it, you can also check that it is level with you gun ports.

Hope this helps those who are about to start this this stage of your build...BigGrin

Well, I managed to get the wriggles cut out today, nearly had a few close shaves with the craft knife, but, yup!! I still got all my fingers...LOL I will have to tidy up the wales around the newly cut wriggles using some sand paper to make it more decent before starting on Issue 44 and fitting the Dolphins...Blink

This model is getting better and better, the more little details, the more interesting it gets...think that I shall adding items to the build that do not come with the official build, the more realistic the better..This model of the Victory would be a good conversation piece when finished..don't you think???BigGrin

Hi jonny7england! Cool

I see you have cut out for the wriggles, I think I should tell you of a problem I've seen.

Did you check the instruction on page 13 of issue 43. I only ask as it says in step 2. "the bottom edge of the wriggle should be level with the top of the port." and shows the bottom of the wriggles just above the gun port linings.

Your cut outs are a lot higher and the middle deck wriggles are also above the holes for the ropes to the gun port lids.

I'm sorry to tell you this mate.

Hi SoB, thanks for pointing that out to me...either my wales are too high or my gun ports are too low?? I'm damned if I know which??? Oh what a boo boo..and what a whopper!! Now I will have to wrack my brains to come up with a way around this problem???Blink Crying

Hi Johnny.

I thought the same as you have done there with the wriggles but after looking at other builds a lot had not cut many out. After reading mag again i agree with what SOB has said.

Just a thought though.Could you not just cut part of the wales out and replace them? Not sure if this is the best way to do it but it would be what i would do if in same position.

Nice looking build though and keep those pics comming, you doing a fantastic job.

Regards

Hi Foz...thanks for your input mate, I did land up spending my Sunday cutting out the offending parts of the wales and replaced them, and not being too happy with the top moulding, I ripped the rear section of those off and replaced them with some spare 3mm x 1mm wooden strips...I shall sand them down today, but experimented with the metal eyebrows supplied, offerd them to the lower wales and found that there will be very little to cut out of the wales, if any in places??? Oh well, you just can't win can yer!! LOL LOL LOL

Anyway, keep up the great work and keep those pics coming.
