This is a veiw of the stern, instead of putting filler in this area, I cut pieces of planking left over from the hull, I think it looks better. what do you think? I'm interested in the trucks on the cannon carriage in your picture. They seem to have a metal 'tyre' unlike the cannon on Victory. This might explain why the Spanish Artensia Latina British 12 pdr cannon kit that I am building is supplied with brass strips for tyres. Needless to say I haven't used them as I'm trying to keep the look as authentic as possible. 12 pdr cannonMike T

Hi Mike, I noticed that when I was in Menorca. I did not pay to much attention to it but you are right there is a metal tyre on the wheel,I thought it was the way the Spanish built their guns? I think you are right. One of the problems of firing cannon on a regular basis was the grooves they started to wear on a wooden deck. Captains used this as an excuse for not engaging in regular live gun practice, where a pristine deck was considered more important.
I would imagine that the metal tyres would create havoc with the decking! Not that it mattered much with the Spanish Navy as their gunnery was never as good as the Royal Navy due to the amount of practice on most British ships.
