Hi all, By pure chance i have acquired all 150 copies of Hachette Partworks 'Build the U96'. I was actually trying to find a complete Amati's Bismarck at the time, when i came across a lady selling the above on a well known internet auction. She had collected the series for her husband, who had sadly passed away before starting the build. She had all the issues, binders, and toolkit plus even the replica newspaper! She was willing to let the lot go for 1/6th the cost of the partworks. So a hearty 'thank you' goes out to the lady in question. Anyway, this will be where i show my build diary. I need to sort the order of parts, as, although unopened, the magazine and parts were seperated (magazines were put into the folders, and parts bags put in seperate boxes). Wish me luck, as it's a HUGE build, and hopefully starting it soon. Regards Gray

Hi Captn What a fantastic find matey. I look forward to following you on your voyage with her and hope you get to finish it completely. Sadly, I had to discontinue my build just short of mid-way, but fortunately found another forum member who was pleased to take it on. Anyway, calm seas and fair winds me heartie, and I'll stowaway in your dockyard and watch it progress. Happy building David

Good luck with this one, its definately big. I picked up a started version, but the gent who sold it was not well so the frame was out of line. I was lucky to be able to purchase replacement parts so I can start fron the beginning even though thats some way off. Will be watching with interest. All the best Gray on your submarine voyage. Will be following and offering any hints and tips along the way if you need them. It's an absolute beast of a model at 1.4 metres long and when it gets to that length be sure to allow plenty of room when moving it around, otherwise you can unknowingly whack it into cupboards etc! I know, I've done that many times with mine, but she's a robust beast, so fair play! Regards, Phil W. Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

Thanks Andy. Yes I’d seen them on the net before I picked the kit up. Like they say, ‘a picture paints a thousand words’. Saw the upgrades on Graeme (pembergs) impressive build diary. Like you say, don’t think they’re available now, which is a shame

Thanks for looking in guys and the positive reaction Here are a few teaser photos of what i actually got. Build will start soon. Shame the torpedo room enhancements are no longer available but we will just have to make do with what we've got . The 4 cardboard boxes are brim full of parts, and still more in some of the binder! Glad i didn't have to wait 3 years to collect them all CaptnBirdseye attached the following image(s):
