To my knowledge London buses are not yet electric or hybrid and there are hundreds that pass along the roads in that area each day. (I stand corrected if that has changed recently ) Add to the above the amount of delivery vehicles that deliver in that area that will be parked up until the times they are allowed access, each with their engine running to keep heaters working in the winter and aircon in the summer and all they`ve achieved is moving the problem for a few hours a day. Seems like a knee jerk reaction to me and I don`t think enough people will be fined £130 to make it self funding, so one guess who`ll be paying for it. One of my customers wanted a price on a 3.5t electric panel van. You were looking at £70k+ for a van that would do 40 MILES on a charge! With an extra £20k for each extra 20 miles!!! Can't see it taking off in the commercial world for a while yet. I think it's just about votes, of SEEMING to care about ecology, not in reality

All that will happen is that motorists will go onto other streets and create gridlock as there will be more traffic on surrounding roads, therefore creating poor air quality in those areas as well.
Its a self fulfilling prophesy.

Its a self fulfilling prophesy. But what about tradesmen such as plumbers and electricians that have deisel vans and need to access addresses?

I totally agree Mr T, the only thing I can think of is that if tradesmen are going into these areas then they will need a pass of some description. It will probably cost money too, thereby raising the cost to the customers as the tradesmen will have to charge more. I think its a silly idea, but drivers will use more residential streets to avoid the ban etc. It will be even worse if the decide to charge for access.

Trouble is we have lily lived politicians who just want votes and don't care about the real life and how people live their lives. I hope this bites them in the butt Martyn Building ? Completed.
