Hi shipmates, Here is a selection of photos of HMS Hood from early on in her career in various parts of the world, right up to her clash with the Bismarck. What makes this this really interesting is there is a photo of the exact moment the shells of Bismarck strike the fatal blow. I have never seen this photo before. http://www.youtube.com/w...1B8E&feature=related

Afriad its not the last picture, in fact its part of a series of pictures taken in January 1938 on exercise - Quote:Looks catestrophic but it isnt. January 1938 combined fleet exercise. Destroyers hiding HOOD from the enemy with a combined smoke screen. In fact even the age of the picture gives the game away in that video, if it was the last picture it would have been in every book for years. The ONLY picture is a still from footage filmed on Prinz Eugen and from some distance, showing smoke, to the left is Prince Of Wales and the larger flume of smoke is the Hood, google it. http://www.history.navy....mages/h69000/h69731.jpg
Quote:British battleship Prince of Wales (smoke column in left center) under fire from the German battleship Bismarck and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, with smoke from the sunken HMS Hood at right. Splashes to the right are shells from Prince of Wales that fell well short of the German ships. Photographed from Prinz Eugen. here is the 11mins footage and at 7.14 you can see where the still came from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPmkOtSveXY

Just to correct myself, the picture in that video is not the HOOD, its actually the HMS Belfast, compare the picture with that of the hood.

Darn now that's embarrassing I thought I had stumbled on to something there Colin. Sorry guys, it looks like in my enthusiasm I have got a bit carried away. I should have checked the profile of the ship first, but I was so excited I didn't think and posted it straight away. Thank's for pulling me up there Colin before I made it even worse. Master at arms, take silent below and clap him in irons.

Dont worry about it Glen, the picture shows the text as HMS Hood, it probably would have got me excited:)
But for a fact the footage does show the Hood after being hit by shells.

I need to make a public appolgey, regarding the picture shown in that video, this picture (I'll take this picture down admin, Tomick, soon as the post has been read)
I said it wasn't the Hood and it was the Belfast..I was wrong and I'm an utter moron, it was taken on board the Ark Royal showing HMS Valiant (to the left of the picture) plus the hood being attacked by Italian S.M 79 bombers in the western Med in July 1940
This is the full picture uncropped, again sorry for saying you was wrong, I was wrong.
