Ahoy Shipmates!

Issue 92 continued:
- pendants added to the fore mast
- shrouds added to the main and mizzen masts

Two questions to the experts regarding these parts:

1) Later on, will there be anything attached to the pendants, or they will hang loose?
Unfortunately even if a soaked the thread with diluted PVA glue and let them dry, after removing the weights they still hang in an "unnatural" way, slightly splayed out. See them in the background of the first photo below.
If there will be nothing attached, can I glue them to the side of the bibbs to make them hang vertical?

2) Shall I seal the shroud reef knots around the mast top? It's not mentioned by the magazine.

Optional extra:
As some of you, I bought little crowns to be added to the end of the catheads.
They sprayed with primer.

Hello Guys,

Quite a few photos this time... BigGrin Cool
Sorry if you'll find them too much. Blink

Issue 92 completed:
- all lower shrouds fitted
- as I opted to have the deadeyes being black, I sprayed them black
- all deadeyes fitted to the shrouds
As I found difficult to make the hidden knot for the deadeyes as per the magazine instructions (I'm not an octopus with eight hands LOL), I used the same method which I made the pendants with.
First with a spare thread I made a loop with a tight tie. Then I set the desired tension with the deadeye in place and then secured the deadeye with the 0.25 thread, sealed with a single knot. Then wrapped the thick thread working from the deadeye and finished with a half hitch.

Issue 95:
- to avoid the shrouds being tangled jumped to this issue to loosely secure all of them with lanyards
It's not mentioned in the magazine, so I'm not sure it's correct or not, but I mirrored how the lanyards were lead through the deadeyes. I used the magazine way (starting from the left hole on the upper deadeye) of the left hand side of the ship, while on the right hand side I started from to right hand hole.
- dummy cannon barrels were fitted behind the mizzen shrouds (issue 100) beforehand

Optional extra, cathead crowns:
- whole crown painted gold
- details added with white, red, green
- blue added to imitate holes
- crowns glued to catheads
I think the end result is quite good relative to the scale Cool

Display cabinet:
- worm and worm wheel arrived for the drive
- plastic gears arrived for sliders
- lots of other parts are in order (bearings, bushings, threaded rods)

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the great comments, much appreciated.

@CRphoto,
I'm glad that you'll find my diary useful during your build, I'm sure you'll enjoy to make your own Victory.

Issue 94 completed:
- pendants added to the fore and main topmasts. As all of the pendants were hanging "unnaturally splayed out" I glued them to the side of the bibbs, to ensure they hang vertical.
- deadeyes added to the tops
- shrouds added to the topmasts
- deadeyes fitted to the shrouds and then loosely secured with lanyards

Issue 95 continued:
- lower shrouds tensioned, lanyards tied up
- futtock staves added to all masts. I used 0.25 mm thread to tie them to the shrouds as I found that 0.5 mm makes a too big knot.

Display cabinet side project:
- further parts arrived, now it's quite a wide collection: shafts, threaded rods, gears, bushings, bearings, shaft collars, dowel pins, motor, rope
- next step is to turn the big spools for the rope from the nylon rod

Ahoy Shipmates,

Thanks for the nice comments. Blushing

Issue 95 continued:
- catharpins added to all masts. First I was a little hesitant what knot I should use to fix them to the wire, because it's not mentioned by the magazine. I tried half-hitch, cow-hitch, but I found them a) too big, b) difficult to make the catharpins to the right tension between the two shrouds. So I ended up with a single knot (I think it's called overhand knot), with this it was easy to set the tension and the knots were still small.

Then the trouble came... Crying Blink Angry
The ship was captured by over-scaled pirates and other creatures. LOL Laugh
My son came and show me what he did and asked if they can go to the ship... I must had a weak moment and I let them on board. Love Cool

Then with a successful counter-attack the ship was cleared and I was able to carry on building. Flapper

Issue 95 finished:
- all futtock shrouds fixed to the futtock stave.
Warning: maybe it's just me, but I strongly recommend that the thread for the mizzen mast top deadeyes (for futtock shrouds) must be longer than 100 mm (at least 120 mm), instructed by the magazine in Issue 94. I nearly ended up some of them being too short, on the worst I had only 3mm spare thread left below the binding, it was so difficult to hold it. See picture below.

Hello All,

another day, another update. Cool

Issue 96 started:
- topmast shrouds tensioned and tied off on all three masts

Issue 93 completed:
- gratings fitted to bow deck
- bowsprit fitted and secured with gammoning. Thanks to Alan (Gandale) to advise how the gammoning should be done, I found the magazine instruction and pictures not very clear. If anybody is in doubt, on this build the gammoning should be done as shown on diagram 'B'. Thanks Alan, again.

The ship is now really getting into shape, it's hardly fit onto a photo. Cool BigGrin Drool Love
