HI there again this question could be answered by Alan or anyone who is passed this point of the build, I know Alan finished his, so the question is marking the forward gun port along the # 12 plank edge in the instructions part 5 page 132 it is off centered and Alan does not mention it on the video so I'm kind of lost here can any one shed some light on this issue thank you

Hi Ronald,

The gun port close to the bow and stern, where the planks slope upwards, will not be exactly square to the line of the planks therefore, the gun port ahead of frame 12 should be positioned with its bottom corner just touching the joint between the planks and the bottom of the port running parallel to the waterline.

Hope the helps..

Regards

Alan

sorry Sir
no disrespect but the photo on page 130 shows the forward gun port straight
and if # 12 bulkhead is straight and I mark the lines on # 12 they would be
straight down so where does the tiny offset come from if the forward edge of the
gun port is suppose to touch the top the first plank I still don't get it, to bad you did not show it build video it would have been very help full

How about showing a pic of your build after you have marked the port out, then I'd be able to say whether it is correct or not. The side of the port should be in line with the bulkhead and the lower left corner should sit on the joints between the planks. The bottom of the port should be parallel to the waterline and not run along the line between the planks....

yes I can do that send you picture when I have the lines marked but I need to make a square jig to mark the port holes I'm just trying to picture in my head
how the bottom is off centered when the edge of the port is in line with the bulk head it's baffling Confused

Its because when you plank around the bow the planks will start to rise up and no longer run parallel to the waterline. Hence the reason the port will look offset when in actual fact it will still be square to frame and the waterline and slightly off the plank joints....

Hi Alan
about the two forward gun ports there is no support beams in the back for dummy guns these gun ports get closed hatches later, so I do not need to drill clean thought like other just clean and square them out right
