Hello Everyone, Thanks for the great comments. Issue 96 continued:- boomkins fitted - netting fitted - gandboard assembled and painted. So far this was the worst thing to paint. By the time I managed to paint all the insides of the gratings, so many paint build up on the top & bottom face of the gandboard that I had to tap it through with a paper tissue to try to get rid of some of them. But some of the paint dried already. Anyhow, I'm not fully happy with the result, regarding the paint thickness, but I believe I couldn't do it better even for second/third time if I would re-do the gandboard, so I left it as it is. - gangboard fitted - main stay attachments added. I had a little problem feeding the forward thread through the bow gratings, because the hole I suppose to use is fully blocked by the beakhead frame. So I ended up to drill a 1.6 mm hole through the obstructing frame. - wanted to start priming the die-cast wriggles but out of the supplied/required 32 pieces only 22 are useable . The rest are badly warped, so I'm now 10 piece short of them. I contacted customer support to order a replacement Issue 91. As my subscription ended in 2012, I have to pay for it, but I spent so much money on this build already, so that 5-6 quid doesn't really matter. Figurehead from Issue 109:I decided to paint and fit the figurehead now, before the bow rigging will make more difficult to access the stem. - crown glued on top of the shield - gaps on the cherubs filled with milliput - parts sprayed with primer gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Hello All, Remaining from Issue 96 skipped due to waiting for replacement wriggles. Issue 97 started:- main stay and preventer fitted - fore stay and preventer fitted - snaking added to stays - mizzen stay and preventer added - gun port lids skipped due to wriggles not in place, I will probably leave them very last anyway, after rigging is fully completed. Issue 98 started:- main topmast stay and preventer fitted - mizzen topmast stay fitted - main topgallant stay fitted - admiral's lantern fitted - mizzen topgallant stay fitted And here came further part problems. I took all the sails to get them soaked in tea. While I was labelling them I noticed that two of them are faulty. The mizzen sail has numbers and Chinese characters written on it (I'm not sure if it will come out during soaking), and the fore topgallant hasn't got the correct shape. I requested replacements. I won't be able to carry on building until they not arrived. Figurehead continued:- three coats of gold applied to support bracket, now it's complete - three coats of white applied to cherubs, then gowns painted red and light blue - two coats of red and blue applied to shield - gold details added gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Hello All, Thanks for the nice comments. As the replacement wriggles arrived I was able to carry on with Issue 96: - wriggles primed and glued in place. Similar to the curved wriggles, I made a little jig to ensure that all the wriggles are in centre compared to the gunports and they are all the same distance above of them. I also used a wedged strip to hold the jig into the gunport until the wriggles glued in place. Issue 109 continued: - figurehead shield glued in place - motto strip bent, primed and painted blue I'm still waiting for the replacement sails gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Ahoy Shipmates, As I'm still waiting for the replacement sails, I decided to change my plan regarding the gun ports. Initially I though I'll only fit them at the very end to avoid knock some off during rigging, but due to this waiting I decided to fit them. I just couldn't sit and wait. Issue 96 completed:- black paint applied to wriggles, now they're nicely blend onto the black/yellow stripes of the hull. Issue "I'm not sure" started :- dummy gun barrels fitted to everywhere. My nightmare came true. I was always worried that when I fit the barrels, when I push them into the drilled holes, the strip will trip over. On the positive note, luckily, I started to fit the barrels under the poop deck (next to the rear cabin section). Here there was only short pieces of support strips, one for each cannon. One on each side broke off. Luckily I still was able to glue the barrels onto the "half holes", as the joint of the strips was right in the middle of the hole, and only the top section broke off. (see Issue 57, were these strips fitted). To avoid the same problem happen on other holes I enlarged all the holes using a round needle file and a battery screwdriver. After this all the barrels slide into the holes easily. Issue 97 continued:- gun port lids cut to size, inside edges chamfered - inside surfaces painted red ochre gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building!
