I decided to have a go at an good old fashioned plastic kit!

So - here it is... Historic F1 Build Entry.

Those that know what I do will understand this is a deviation for me from total scratch builds or adding bonkers detail to part work models.
I fancied a 'rest'.

I will add a lot of extra detail but I really don't intend going potty over this one.
It's the early Tamiya kit without the etched bits but that doesn't bother me as I'll add those bits myself anyway.

So far, I've prepped and assembled some of the basic body tub parts.
Paint is (as always) genuine car paints from Halfords.
For the Honda 'off-white' I've used Rover Leyland white which is a creamy white. Not 'snow' white.

More to come, very slowly...

Why not enter the build into the Historic F1 Competion which is for F1 cars 1966-85 which does not end until the 26th Nov., The Honda RA273 raced in the 1966/67 seasons

BigGrin Its a nice kit Roy and goes together well. One tip for the meatball decal that is in front of the cockpit, it will need lots of decal softener to get it in position over all the lumps n bumps and rivets. Will look forward to your buildCool
Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Many thanks chaps...

A little more:

The fluid reservoirs are sorted but I drilled and added some pipework as the kit has none.
TBH, it's a bit pointless as it's virtually invisible when it's all installed in the main tub.
It's fun to add twiddly bits though.

A little more today.

I've sorted the dash panel - chrome bezels courtesy of a Molotow chrome marker pen.
The seat has been covered in real leather although it hasn't shown very well in the pics. It does look a whole lot better than the naff plastic moulding.

Front bulkhead also now sorted and upper arms in place...
More suspension bits to come next.

Another update.

The model has come on reasonably quickly up until now but that is really because the early parts etc are pretty simple, with little scope for 'extra's'.

The water tank and radiator are now in, as are the pipes under the car.
Hose clips were added using metal foil tape.

Now - the engine...

I've done a fair bit of Google research and I've found that various parts of the engine were different colours on different cars.
I'm following a car currently in a museum.

I have also found several areas where the kit parts are wrong.

The top of the engine block has a strange rectangular lump moulded in on the kit parts that actually doesn't exist.
I cut it off and covered the area with thin plastic sheet.

Also, the injector manifold are totally wrong.
There should be a space between each bank of three, so I cut out the unwanted piece of plastic.

LOTS of engine detailing and additions to follow...
