Continuing with issue #40 I am having a minor problem, concerning the gallery support.

http://forum.model-space...s&m=21388#post21388

Could anybody be so kind and post an image of this section of hie model ?
I do not really understand how it is supposed to look like, the magazine is a little bit unclear to me at this stage.

Thank you already in advance

Thanks mate but your images do not show the spot I ment.

issue #40:
The supports of upper false deck (58) are supposed to contact the lower false deck (57).
But they don't. There is a gap of 5mm.
The slots in the stern planking are in the correct place (see third image below).
If I want part 57 to touch part 58, I have to lift it up.

Is this a problem?

The lower false deck (57) is supposed to be glued to the gallery supports below,
so should I ignore the gap below the upper false deck supports (59).

I can't see what went wrong here.

Any ideas ?

Timm

Bad news I'm afraid Timm Crying

Take another look at photo #7 of your post #44, the final frame is not fully seated into the keel frame and appears to be sat higher than the previous frames, which in turn means that the gallery deck (which should seat upon the final frame) ends up being seated higher than it should be and produces your 5mm height gap above the gallery floor.

Easiest way to double check and be 100% sure is run a scrap of plank from the deck supports of the final frame forward across the deck supports of the frames in front, its should be a smooth flow rather than a drop in height if that makes sense.

The frame is going to need some careful chop work to lower the gallery deck 5mm and also lower the heights of the deck supports upon the frame higher up, which are also too high because the frame is sat too high/not fully seated.

Hello Tomick,

you are right (do you have eagles eyes ??)
Rib 30 is too high in all means. I never really paid attention to this because in some issue the magazine said that all ribs will be sanded down to the planks later.

Do you think it would be enough if I cut off the decks supports and glue them 5 mm lower, or sand them down that much? And the false upper gallery deck as well ? Chopping off the entire rib would be a massive task....

Correct, reducing the height of the suports and centre span is the only way out of this one with out having to perform major heart surgery!

Mark the height that the deck supports need to be at where they support the plank, then carefully reduce the height of each the supports.

You will also need to reduce the height of the centre span (as arrowed) of the final frame by the amount that the gallery deck sits too high (think you said 5mm) so that the gallery deck supports contct with the gallery base, obviously you'll also have to re-cut the slots in the hull side planking to take the new (lower) position of the galley deck.

Hi Timm! Cool

Tomick is right about the deck beam support brackets you will need to reduce the height to match the other brackets. You can sand them down or remove them at the point they meet the vertical part of the rib with (a razor saw or small hacksaw) then glue them to the correct height.

As for the centre span the upper gun deck planks would normally go on top of this if you don't what to remove this centre area and don't mind a step in the deck at this point, you could remove the two lugs from the false deck part 58 that would normally go into the slots of rib 30, so that it fits behind the centre span 5mm lower than normal, on the other side of rid 30 you can fit a plank 5mm lower than the top of the centre snap from one side to the other, so that the upper deck planks will fit onto that instead of rib 30.

Or you can always cut the centre span of rib 30 to the correct height and cut the slots it is up to you Timm, don't worry about the top of rib 30 as this will be reduced when you fit the last 2 planks for the poop deck bulwarks and cut them too shape.

Hello guys,

I finally managed to complete this stage of issue #40
with the help of yours.

I cut off the beam support brackets and glued them 5mm below. Now they are flush with the others. Then I removed the two lugs from the false deck part 58 and glued it directly against rib 30. Should be alright now.

Thanks again for your help !!!
