Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. This weeks update continues with modifications to the conning tower of my 1/48 scale model of U-boat U230. Last week saw me scratch building the wire antennae radar mast and this week I completed it by adding a few more details. The attached photo shows the first of three terminals being fitted. Made from 2.5mm round plastic rod, cut and filed to length, with a 1.0mm hole drilled through the centre. Earlier in the week I ordered some 1.0m diameter brass rod. In this photo, I've cut a small length and bent it to connect the central terminal to the wire antennae frame. In reality the signal would then be transmitted down the mast and onto the Radar Shack to be read by a radio operator. The attached photo shows the first of two paddle shaped receptors. Made from 0.5mm thick plastic sheet and drilled out to accept a length of 0.5mm diameter brass rod.
