Hi All

As dicussed in the other post from HERE - thought I'd split it out to make it easier. I have sorted some preliminary pricing!

The case would be currently either white oak or Ash. Most likely at the moment is Ash. American White Oak seems to be in a bit of short supply at the moment but Ash would be a suitable replacement and still a very nice timber. Glass size would be 4mm. Removable MDF base insert so that can be covered in a material or paint of your choice. It will NOT include a stand for your model so you will need to fix your finishing stand to the base.

Final cost would be £260.00 so about half that of anywhere else.

There is also the option of having toughened glass (which I would recomend)as an additional cost of £100.00

Delivery wise I would rather collection but courier could be arranged and costed later.

If you want a specific timber other than those mentioned then please let me know and I can price accordingly.

Delivery schedule as it stands would be 2-3 months. I know this is a long time, but I have to get all the tooling sourced that I don't already have then setup. But you'll all get them long before you finish the model lol!!!!

Payment would need to be in advance for obvious reasons, I won't be making a big markup on these and the material costs and tooling is alot.

From a safety aspect of such a large case, it might be an idea to spec safety glass rather than plate glass.

Thanks Tomick for the input and I appreciate Deagostini's stance on remaining disassociated from this.

I've thought about toughened and it is an option for people that I forgot to list. It essentially adds £100 to the price.

Updated main post to reflect.

Hi Joe.

Not a bad price and I will certainly give it some thought.

Where would collection be from?

I would like to try and get a group order together if possible from those that are interested (think there is about 10 originally showing interest!) As it's the initial setup that costs the money for me and makes it viable.

What I could suggest is that to get it started as I appreciate that the total cost is alot of money, if we can get about 10 to place an order I can take deposit to get started of £130.00 and the rest of the amount can be paid when either the case is ready or when you are ready to pay the final sum. I am happy to hold off final payment for those that want to wait a bit to get the rest together as the rest is mostly the cost of the glass. That doesn't need to be ordered until it's ready for delivery. But essentially getting that initial order and deposit allows me to get the tooling set up that I need and the wood bought in a sufficient quantity to warrant the discounts I need to keep price down.

How does that sound to people?

And here on Planet Earth we he have to pay for materials, tooling, time etc. Do you often sell things for less than they cost? As much as I am trying to help out - I'm not here to help pay for your cases..

However you are more than welcome to try and build it yourself for under £100 - Good Luck!

just a point, the thickness of glass on a fishtank that size is probably a minimum of 13mm to take the weight and pressure of the volume of water, been there done that .obviously 4mm glass has a big weight difference.I may go down this route at some point as the price is fair.still wont be light but nowhere near the weight your quoting.regards

BigGrin Hi Ronald

Why dont you explore making your own display case all yo will need is a jig saw and a router if you cant buy the wood with the grooves for the glass or acrylic sheet. There are loads of DIY info out on the web to do this and to top it all you can tell people you made the case too mega kudosDrool LOL . I have made my own cases in the past and its not as hard as you might think.

Regards
