6.5mm wide plastic strips were then added to either side of the mast housing to blend it into the conning tower structure as per my b/w photo of the real U230.

The first of four pieces fitted to obtain the correct, tapered profile of the armoured box were it attaches to the conning tower.

The fourth and final tapered piece fitted, completing the lower section of the port armoured box.

Also attached is the b/w photo i mentioned earlier showing the port side of U230. You can just make out the 'laughing swordfish' emblem on the side of the port armoured box.

In conclusion i'm pretty happy with the way my version has turned out.

The port armoured box isn't exactly the same as the photo but close enough. What with only one b/w photo to reference I had to apply a bit of 'artistic license'.

It took awhile to fabricate the small, tapered pieces to fit correctly, but overall it turned out well.

The nit-picky side of my brain is slightly bothered that it doesn't look exactly like the photo, but without further pics I have no idea how it was profiled. As the boxes were all of different designs and shapes from one boat to the next, it doesn't really matter. [I've just convinced my nit-picky side to let it go] lol LOL
