You could always try this kit first to expand your woodworking skills before progressing onto the Constitution

Hey Greg,
good luck with your ship builds.The major benefit of the model space kits is the instructions in my opinion.Model shipways make nice kits and their instructions are pretty good, but nothing I have ever built matches the model space instructions.The Swift was my first wooden ship.Its a great beginner kit.
