Hello all,
I will be using the Revell 1:48 Tornado IDS (kit #03987) as my base kit and will be utilising the Flightpath "RAF Tornado Gr.1/1A/4/4A Detail and Conversion Set" to convert the IDS into a GR.4 spec aircraft. I'll also be using various other aftermarket products which include resin wheels, ejection seats, exhaust nozzles, wheel bays and a few turned metal parts. I won't be using the kit decals for the scheme as shown on the kit box, instead I will be using aftermarket decals to replicate the "70th Anniversary of 617 Sqn 'The Dambusters' aircraft as flown in 2013/14.
Some of my aftermarket parts haven't arrived yet along with my Sam Modeller's Datafile (Panavia Tornado) reference book and another recently released photo book. I will post photos of those when they arrive, but here are a few photos of what I already have just to get this diary moving.
Building will commence this weekend.
Kev

Hello all,
The aftermarket parts for the ejection seats, exhausts and wheel bays that I was waiting for have now arrived, so time to crack on with this build. Now that the ejection seats are here, I've decided to start with those as I will be adding more scratchbuilt detail to them and I want to get some of the more fiddly elements of my build out of the way early on.
After removing the resin casting blocks and cleaning the bases up, a quick check for size showed that they do fit the kit tub perfectly, so on with the next task which was to add even more detail to some already nicely detailed seats. Reference photos rom the 'net and my books were used and the scratchbuilt details added from a mix of styrene strip, fusewire and some parts from the PE sheet that is supplied in the 'Flightpath' set that I have. I will just show one seat in the photos as I build them, but the second seat will be detailed in parallel to the one I show. Seatbelts will be added in the next step, using those from the 'Flightpath' set which are nicely thin and well detailed. The pre-painted ones that come with the 'CMK' seat set aren't really that great if I'm honest.
Photos below show the aftermarket sets, the seats with and then without casting blocks and then after scratchbuilt detail has been added. Compare them to the standard undetailed seats to see what I've added.
Thanks for looking, all comments and criticisms welcomed.

Hello all, sorry for the delay in any updates on this build, been very busy at work, finishing projects before the Christmas break.
My two reference books have arrived along with an 'Xtradecal' Tornado stencil sheet and a set of Modern RAF Cockpit Dataplate & Warning decals from Airscale.
I have done a bit more adding of detail to the CMK resin ejection seats the photos below that show one of the seats partly painted with primered belts and padding contain belts from the Flightpath set and the padding was scratchbuilt from some lead sheet that I bashed to a thinner size and then added a texture to it by pressing a small file into it, gently tapping with a small hammer to get the slight fabric effect. Unfortunately it is very difficult to see the texture in my photos but it is there and may show better when painted and drybrushed. There are still a few more thinner belts to add to the seat and I also need to remake the ejection 'pull' handles as the ones I had shown in earlier photos just looked a bit oversized to me so I've discarded those and will make the new ones more to scale and add them at the end of the seat building sequence. The seats have so far only had a blocking in of colour, more detail painting to come after I've finished adding the smaller seat belts, then 'dataplate' decals from the Airscale set and then finally a darker wash to bring out the details before some satin varnish to finish.
Hoping to get this build moving along more rapidly now that I am off work until the 2nd January 2019! Thanks for looking, all comments and criticisms greatly appreciated.
