OK, after spending almost 24hrs charging my batteries, installed them, did the charger on/off, turned him on and he did the start up routine.

Light saber worked
Arms worked
Put him into antomonous mode and this is where it went pear shaped, he just went round in circles, sounded like the leg motors weren't working properly.

He also just bumped into things and the leg motors kept spinning.

I have triple checked all the cables and they are correct.

Anyone else experienced this?

When you tested the leg sensors did everything work as per the instructions? There could be a fault with that. I had to replace my sensor circuit board at the time because it wasn't working correctly.

It may also be worth checking you have the correct plugs in the correct sockets and check all connections are properly secure. Also double check that you labelled the wires correctly - one wrong tag could mean you got the wrong plug in the wrong socket

Before you posted your reply (thanks by the way) I tested him again, he jerked forward, rotates head.
Put in antomonous mode and he goes round in circles as if he is struggling to know the surroundings, so I'm thinking leg sensors (even though the checks during the build were ok)
The centre leg bumper sensor work.
What are the 2 sensors behind the grill suspose to detect?

I presume they do a similar thing to the leg sensors - as in they probably detect an object, and the legs decide which side its on so it knows which way to turn? There was also a test for these sensors too, was that working correctly?

I hope you find the solution to your issue.

How big is the space your testing him in.

What type of floor surface are you running him on.

You will need to double check the labeling of the wires and conections.

When he is turning are both motors running or just one this could point to where the fault is.

This is a mine field, open space, 2m approx either side, it does sound like the motors are struggling but he does jump forward when starting up.

Ok space is good.

What surface is he running on?

The jump forward on switch on tells me the motors are connected correctly. If the wheels are spinning on a polished surface they will sound strained.

I have to ask questions that eliminate causes of a problem as I do not have your R2 in front of me.

I have tried him on Lamiate and lylo, both surfaces he reacts the same but it's the fact that he seems not to detect objects in front of him.

I think it might be if I post a video of him.

Hi, It looks to me that the foot sensors are picking up the grout lines in your floor and this is making him think there is a step there. If you look closely his foot runs over a grout line he stops and turns then it happens again when he hits the next one.

Can you test him on an untiled floor or a laminate one to see if he has the same reaction. I have laminate throughout the grond floor of my house and I dont get the reaction your getting on a laminate floor.

Just tried him on laminate and he does move around alot better but unfortunately still bumping into things.

Seems that none of his sensors are working properly.

What are the 2 behind the grill meant to detect?

Thanks for the help.

Will do another video.

Looking at your laminate floor vid the sensors look to be working ok as when he starts off he goes forward senses the setee and turns and carrys on doing that.

In terms of bumping into objects, some items are of a size that the sensors may find dificult to sense. The front foot bumper sensor is for low level obstructions only.

The two central sensors are ultrasonic.

His foot sensors work.
His shoulder and front sensors don't work and those ones go into a separate module!
Possibly faulty module?

His shoulder sensors appear to be working ok as those are the ones sensing the setee first and geting him to turn. The foot sensors are also working fine as you saw them picking up the tile grout lines. The ultrasonics will be low level and will pick up things of a certain size and is dependant on R2's orietation.
Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

i bet that one or two cables are plugged in the wrong way on the main board.
another builder on the Facebook group had one cable backward the the whole r2 would not initialize.

so double check each sensor connection very carefully.

i think that mixed up cables will be the #1 problem folks have.

I have triple checked the wiring.
I'm now under the conclusion that the main ECU (the big one) is fine, the foot sensors plug into that. The small ECU at the back has the shoulder and front sensors plugged into and that seems to my problem.
He will just go towards the settee and bang into it and just keeps on driving.
Like in my video surely he should not bump into table legs?

Im a little concerned in your video that the front of his body hits anything before even contacting the bumper on the foot. Or did i not watch it properly?

Did your sensor circuit board work correctly when we started the leg sensor testing? Iirc a few people had problems that nothing was working as instructed in the magazines etc. Replacing the circuit board corrected the fault at the time amd the tests worked correctly.

You noticed correctly.

Everything worked correctly during the build tests.

I'm going to just recheck the wiring one last time.
