Thanks for the comments all A bit more done on the Vasa . Painted some more of the carvings while waiting for the planks to dry I have completed the planking of the lower hull quite a challenge as its a weird shape more like a barge than a fighting ship, know wonder it fell over. Now started planking the upper hull and while they are drying I have a side project for the Rougham Tower Museum the B26 Flack Bait of the 322nd bomb group which was stationed there in 1943 Off to do some more planking Cheers for following Martyn Martyn Ingram attached the following image(s): Building ? Thank you all for the Briliant comments A bit more done on the Vasa . The decks have all been fitted and the doors glued into place . Next step the deck planking. The planks were sanded and the edges marked with a pencil and glued to the decks . Once dry the plank joints where marked in with a sharp pencil. Looking at the real ship the planks are not equal and there is no shift pattern and are very random so I have tried to follow the pattern as best I could. The reason for the decks being so random seems to be the lack of experience of the carpenters and the shipwright as they never built a ship with two gun decks before and not helped by two measuring systems . The decks were then trimmed and stained with mid oak Next time finishing the rest of the hull Cheers for looking Martyn Martyn Ingram attached the following image(s): Building ? Completed. Cheers for the comments Alan and Walter It's great when you get time off for the holidays plenty of time to get some modelling done I have finished planking the hull and marked and cut out the gunports. Then it was fun time three glorious hours of sanding down the beast . The stern post was fitted after the grove was cut out. I had to open the grove up a bit as I planked the stern post first with the planking going vertical and not horizontal as shown in the instructions . After it had dried I fitted the false keel as I like planking tight up against it . Next job planking the stern ,I love putting on the second planks as it starts looking like a proper ship. I marked the thirty degree angle and I have put on the first planks these will be corked with the pencil method as I am staining and not painting so the corking will show through hopefully One thing I forgot to mention the gunports have been lined up with the line of the whales and not horizontal as shown in the instructions, if you look at the real ship they slant slightly as they go towards the stern. That's all for now Happy New Year Martyn Martyn Ingram attached the following image(s): Building ? Completed. Soliei Royal . Sovereign of the Seas . Virginia . Scotland . San Felipe .
