Hi all,
After some mishap with my choice of batteries (The wraps were thick enough to reduce contact in the box, but got this resolved), my R2 is fully operational!
I have some questions though:
I can hear constant clicking coming from the Ultrasonic sensors on the front and the shoulders when powered on - is this normal?
There also seems to be a whine from the head motor, although this doesn't effect operation.
And on boot up it seems that the arms motor makes a clunking noise for a few seconds, this doesn't seem to be any issue with the operation of the arms as these work fine when pressing the button.
Any confirmation if this is normal or ideas on how to resolve would be greatly appreciated.

I would say it was all normal. Sensors clicking because they have power supplied to them, just r2 is sitting in 'stand by'. Again, whine from head motor is probably down to the same reason - power supplied to it. The arm motor clicking on startup is probably the motor rotating to its zero position and racheting the mechanism slightly? So my expectations would say this would all be normal. Best to wait for confirmation from the official source though to be safe. Building:

Thanks for the reply, I've had a look at a few videos and I think you're right about the arms motor, I can hear that clearly on other units. The clicking from ultrasound can be picked up on my phones mic as what can only be described as puffs of air! The sensors seem to work okay, although he has trouble with fabrics - i.e. sofas and chairs. It's as if the sound is absorbed rather than reflected. I am very grateful that he's a working unit though!

If i remember right, when we tested the peg sensors, you could heae them clicking then too, so thats why im not too worried about that. And sound about right with regards to fabrics not reflecting the sound. Glad to hear a droid is working amongst the ones that dont. Building:

I didnt mean my comment in a negative way, i was in fact being positive. As you say, it can be reasonably expected to see a few not work. Just the sheer amount so far that dont work seems to far outweigh the ones that do. I agree that most are possibly down to mistakes. There may even be a few that handled the pi board incorrectly and may have given it a static shock amd caused damage. Who knows Building:

You just have to look at our forum to see the number of new members we have acquired and in the vast majority of cases the first post they've made is to highlight a problem with their R2 and seek help to resolve.... Perhaps it was your remark of “Just the sheer amount so far that dont work seems to far outweigh the ones that do.” that is negative as per the explanation noted.

After watching lots of videos on FB/YT of peoples working units, I am happy that my initial questions are all part of normal operation.
