Hello everyone,

Finished Artoo a couple days ago and just fitted batteries and ran the startup test. I have the following issues.

1. Startup he shuffles forward but the head does not move at all,
2. Projector stuck on Luke loop, no audio,
3. Lightsaber button does nothing (sometimes works in the App though),
4. All other buttons seem to work as advertised,
4. Nothing at all from the Logic LCD's,
5. Can connect fine using the App.

I have tested the battery pack, gives out 12.4v and the batteries are original Samsung 26F's with button tops and charged fully with the DeAg charger. Plugged in there is no indication of charging either (no lights at all) but seems to charge.

Once connected via the app:
Same as above. All App functions work except for the projector always shows Luke no matter what the selection is, audio for both Luke and Leia plays fine with Luke still on loop as per startup. Nothing from the Logic LCD's either.

Patrol works and every other manual control does too. He steers around, the arms extend and retract and he plays all the various sound effects. Can move the head in the App, a bit jerky.

Tested the ejector and all of the motors and they work as advertised. Also tested the logic LCDs as before and they work.
Camera Mode works too and can see a picture via the App.

Having read others comments seems I have a dodgy MCU?

Any ideas?
Cheers,
J.

I had very similar issues and if I disconnected the mic from the Orange Pi in the head, everything works as expected.

I'm asking CS for a replacement mic.

Cheers,

Andrew.

The logic LCD's only work when in the app mode and must be switched on via the manual control button when using the app.

Can you try disconecting the mic from your PI board to see if it has any effect.
Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi guys,
Thanks. Disconnected Mic and same behaviour sadly.
Recognise the LCD doesn't work without App. As above, no LCD with App.
Cheers,
J.

The head doesn't complete the self test... thinking the LCD is probably not the issue having read other threads with same behaviour?

As I cant see your build we have to go through a sequence to find the problem and count other things out as we go. If your sure of what is the cause then by all means do what you think is best to cure it.

Making sure all the sockets are pluged in corectly is the start and a cure for others who have got theres working.

Thanks, appreciate it.
I have tried to capture all of the observed behaviour below for all modes and buttons.
The behaviour is the same even though I have rewired him 3 times and made sure all cables are buzzed out where possible to make sure there isn't a break. Also checked all Motors, Projector, LCD and all other pre-build tests again to make sure all the bits are working. MCU has no bent connections and have seated and reseated them multiple times to check.

Startup:
Jerks forward, left motor stronger than right, no head movement.
Status Indicator stays red.
Front Arm tick, I guess checking closed. R2 whistles and Projector comes on with Luke on loop. No Audio.
Arms button works but Lightsaber doesn't. All others are fine.

App:
App connects and R2 whistles. Only tried direct mode so far, can't get to Local Mode as I can't get to the blue light flashing point, stuck on Red.
Battery shows 100% on App.

In Video Control Mode:
Video works.
Can 'drive' R2 but head movement is jerky and sometimes goes to the stops of it's own accord. Every now and again the head goes to one of the stops.

In Manual Control Mode:
Projector still stuck on Luke, no audio from the startup even if I choose Leia or Luke.
Shake Head and LCD not working either.
Whistles for projector, shake head and LCD but no action.

On any movement the left motor seems to have more movement so R2 turns slightly right (just like jerk forward test Right motor less effective than left).

Randomly after any App command the head goes to one of the stops again if I reposition it in App. This is common on Video and Manual modes.

Charging Mode:
If I switch R2 on with charger plugged in his head does the calibration thing from the Startup sequence and then the projector flashes white, no video. Does now exhibit normal charging behaviours.

Does that help at all? My gut says the MCU or the Orange Pi are faulty but open to suggestions here as after 3 rewires I'm pretty frustrated.
Cheers,
J.

Hi,
Yes. It's these from eBay.
As per my 1st message on here they are original Samsung 26F button top batteries.
They were charged fully with the DeAg charger. I ran a voltage check with a voltmeter on the battery pack and got 12.4v when tested.
I have also run them thorugh a Kinden Intelligent Charger for 18650's and they show as full charged there too. They also show as 100% charged in the App.

The link I bought them from is:

Thanks again.

The continuous discharge current stated for your battery is 2.6A which could be the cause as its barely enough Amperage regardless of the level of charge indicated being 100%

A few have come to light using 1 - 2 amp batteries and their operational problems resolved when batteries were swopped to being over 3 Amps continuous discharge (up to 10 Amps is more than ample)

See number 9 in the spec of the battery posted on their webpage.

Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Are there any recommended batteries then?
Or a supplier recommended.

Can't find any other than 30Q Samsungs that are rated that highly?
