That certainly is a great book, lots of info, but the X-Wing depicted in it is in the Black and Orange colour scheme.

In the Weathering Aircraft publication, sub title Panels, by www.theweatheringaircraft.com there is a build and weathering of the original X-Wing, along with a whole host of useful tips etc.
