After a few days of on/off use with my R2, here a few thoughts, mostly a constructive report…
•Batteries: I am using ones from 18650 (courtesy of Ben), I have only charged R2 once when it was about 62%, but running time of R2 is petty impressive (look at getting a minimum of about 2 hours constant use)
•Status/Matrix Lights: it’s a shame that the matrix lights have to be switched on manually by the App, but maybe future App updates could make this part of R2’s startup sequence (either when using the App or from boot up)
•Voice Recognition: I find that R2 is a it temperamental even in a relatively quiet room, but have the radio or tv on, and R2 doesn’t like that - Switched off via App
•Facial Recognition: Not used Facial Recognition, it doesn’t work too well for me wearing glasses unfortunately - Switched off via App.
•Holograms: the holograms play on a slant due to position of projector, but a simple fix for this is rotate head so projector faces forward (R2 head slightly to the right)
•Apps: the current iOS app suffers from pulsing head movements and also the Hologram issue that the 1st Android app suffered with, but an update will sort that.
•Movement(via App): I think there should be a timing update in a future app, if you ask R2 to turn Right/Left he does about 75 degrees, and if you ask R2 to turn around he does about 160 degrees - minor thing, and again an update could fix this with a minor adjustment
•Patrol Mode: If you activate this via the App then R2 will ram everything he comes across, but if you activate Patrol Mode via the 1 button on his front panel he will work pretty well (just disconnect Wi-fi/app beforehand!
•Center Foot/Wheel: In it’s default build, the foot is a bit too low for even short carpet, if you suffer with this, just need to add a couple of the washers that you should have spare to raise the caster wheel (it’s only 4 screws and a nut to undo/redo)
Overall I am really happy with the overall project, a few minor issues, nothing serious.
Would happily build another R2 unit!
What else would people add? (Within reason of course) thanks

I’d like to see something similar to the sphero R2-D2 where when it’s not being controlled, it goes into random head movements and sounds, Another option is to have the projector come on only with no video so to it as a spot light. And totally agree with DCs options. Seàn
