Hi - just checking, to test the plug on the battery box, I’m literally connecting the multimeter to the red and black contacts in the plug itself? Each battery is reading 4+ v each, but at the plug I’m getting nothing.

The best way to check if the batterys are making full contact in the box is to try and borrow a multimeter and test the plug contacts, if it tests at just over 12 volts all the batterys are seated correctly and we can start to try and solve any other issues after that.

Can you post a link to the batteries you have purchased so we can check the full spec?

Panasonic NCR18650B 6.7A 3400mAh Battery (4 Batteries - VIPERTECH Case Included) https://www.amazon.co.uk..._r_cp_tai_LPsjCbH392XP5

They’re these, but with button tops (welded on?) The page on Amazon is mysteriously no longer available. I’m getting over 12v across the series, but nothing at the plug.

Hate to say it but your batteries are flat tops rather than button tops, which is why you have no power coming from the battery box. The +ve end of your battery has no means to make contact with the battery box terminals which button tops do.

Hi - as I said they have button tops, possibly welded on after. I'm getting over 12v testing across the series in the box, but nothing at the plug.

They look dubious to me, it's the double rim too which would indicate some kind of protection.

Take a look at this site, it explains batteries differences and what to look for...

Is my Battery Protected? (18650)

Hope that helps

It says 'unprotected' on the description. This is all a bit frustrating. Would a protected battery perform in any way, as I'm switching R2 on and getting absolutely nothing. I would have thought, even with a protected battery, something would light up or buzz? As I said, full voltage across the series in the battery box, but nothing at the plug. All batteries have been tested at the positive/negative plates in the box.

The Amazon page shows flat tops so who added the button tops.

Your battery box itself could be faulty can you check the solder joints where the lead goes into the battery box.

Also if the batterys are protected you may find they have already damaged a component but we wont know that untill we sort out the power problem in the battery box.

Hi - the page I ordered them from on Amazon has gone. The page listed above is an example of the type of battery, but mine were listed as 'button top'. Though the buttons do look a bit 'temporary'. But as I said, full voltage in the box across the series, just nothing at the plug. Took the box apart and solders look fine and solid. Have requested a new battery box, MCU and ordered the Samsung batteries from 18650 website. Between them three, the solution lies...

I would say it is likely the batteries, possibly the battery box. You might find that they won’t send you the MCU as it’s not yet been identified as having fault., ordering replacements you do not yet need is not in keeping with the terms of free replacements.

Ok, great. Well, at least that's narrowed down the issue. Ta.

For the record, it was the MCU. I replaced the batteries, then the battery box, and finally replaced the MCU and rewired the whole thing. Now works a treat.
