I've just laid the first 3 layers of the planks below the waterline and used a dropper-plank on rows -2 and -3. Using the technique in the magazine, it looks like I will need another dropper at rows -4 & -5.

Is this possible?

If it is, should I space the dropper plank to run a rib back or forward of the previous one? or can it finish on the same rib?

Hi StefanDV
Yes, it is possible that two droppers will be needed in succession, indeed, I had to to do it twice on my build. As to whether to line them up on the same rib, well that's a matter a personal preference, I myself made the second one longer (to the next rib back).
After looking at some build diaries of more experienced builders, I settled for making the ends of my droppers a 'V' shape rather than just a straight cut. Although this method requires more work, the end result (I feel), is far more pleasing to the eye.
Hope this was useful
Happy building

Thanks Daffy09,

I feel more comfortable to go that route.

PS. Do you perhaps have a link to those build diaries?

Here's one that popped up on the forum just today, although a different subject, if you scroll down you'll find an excellent example of multiple droppers
Happy building

Thanks, I've also got a build diary there.

What is the name of the topic that you're trying to point me to?

Sorry, forgot about that.
You could try Zeptraders index to topics where you're sure to find articles on bow droppers and more

Got the index of topics, thanks. Also had a look in Darron's build dairy where there are some very nice photos of him using dropper planks on his 2nd layer of planking (page 6 iirc)

Very neat! Thanks Timm.

How do you decide to use 2 droppers in a row? (3rd dropper down)

Simply the planks themself told me what to do.
Keep holding a loose plank against the last on and bend it softly against the bow. You have to keep the plank flush to the ribs und mark that point, where it crosses the last plank. The balsa fillers really helped to see where I was about to run into the stairway effect.
In my case, the bending of the bow was so strong, that I needed droppers in every row until approx. row 17 (below the waterline).

Hard to explain this in english (sorry)

Darron explained it in his build diary here

Hope it helps.

A funny sidenote: the german word for droppers is buttplanke.
No kidding !
How is that Drool
