First of all I have these batteries

Batteries

I have fully charged them.

Although I haven`t got the last 4 issues yet, should be any day now, I thought I would inset them in the box (its not connected to anything) and measure the voltage across the terminals as a test. Herein lies the problem as I thought it should be around 12.5v but am only getting 4.2v, is this correct or do I need to get another battery box?

Check that your batterys at the + end are making full contact with the battery box terminals. When you say tested the terminals you meen the terminalsat the end of the lead.

Have just re-inserted the batteries and retested across the battery terminals I get 12.4v which is correct but at the lead end I now get 0v, whereas last night I had around 4.2v

I'm still a few issues from completion too, but saw your question, so I decided to try it too. My battery box is doing the same - 12.6v across the battery series, 0v out on the power cable.

But based on the start-up sequence that we need to perform on R2 the 1st time - I'd expect 0v out until the battery/charger circuit is initiated. If it was putting out the 12.6v already there wouldn't be a need for the start-up sequence.

So I'm thinking this is normal at this stage of the build.

Yes that is correct as it needs switching on first so wait until your R2 goes through the start up procedure.
