Hi All.

I have just finished building R2D2, batteries charged and connected to wifi. The robot moves around as it should but the problem I have is the Projector is constantly on, the small LCD array does not work, and the lightsabre does not pop up. every thing else that I have tested works OK, I have checked all of the wiring and connections and all are correct. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi the two LCD arrays on the dome are switched on via the app.

You need to check the connections for the projector as you may have a bad connection somewhere, look out for loose wires in the plug ends.

Double check the assembly of the lightsabre we have had reports of the cog that fits onto the motor spindle being misaligned which can stop it working.

Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

You might want to double check the connections. One member has posted his finding that might be useful.

Look at post 20, I recommend using a wooden cocktail stick, not anything metallic.

Hi Thanks for the reply.

I can turn the long LCD array on and off by the app but the small one fails to come on via the app but works ok with the test board.

I have tested the lightsaber and it works ok using the test module but not in the droid.

The projector is constantly on with a fixed image but occasionally goes off then back on.

Also for no reason the lightsaber sudenley goes up and down on its own for no reason then stops.

I have rechecked all the connections and all are in the correct sockets with no bent pins and are completely in tight.

In the app, if I use the projector the audio for both sound tracks is present but the image is of Luke but no motion, just a fixed image.

I think you may have some bad connections, the reason why is that you get the lightsabre working on its own this tells me contacts are being made and lost by him moving about.

The contacts to double check are where things are not operating as they should and although plugged in correctly the pin may not be fully connected.

OK today I have decided to find out what works and doesn’t on my R2D2 to build a better picture of what the problem may be, I have again rechecked all the connections.
When R2 is idle the projector is constantly on showing Luke and on cleser inspection he is moving, Green LED at rear of head is on and no LED at front, Long LCD is on, Lightsaber does not pop up and no short LCD, all lower head functions work ok.

Using the app:

If I turn Short LCD On the Green LED at rear goes off and the projector plays Leia
If I turn Short LCD Off the Green LCD goes back on and the projector plays Luke
If I play Hologram 1 I get a Bright Blue LED at the front and Leia Audio
If I play Hologram 2 I get a Bright Blue LED at the front and Luke Audio
When I select Patrol R2 patrols OK but the projector changes back and forth from Leia to Luke and sometimes the lightsabre pops up the down.

It seems that everything is working but all in the wrong order.

When you say you have rechecked the connections are you checking each plug for wires that are miving inside it these will be if any are found the reason for a bad connection.

Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I re did the whole lot just to be sure, its almost as if there is a problem with wiring harness between the MCU and the Distribution board.

OK, R2D2 is now working; while I am still waiting for a new MCU to arrive I decided to have another poke around with the wiring, what I found after measuring each wire for continuity there was a wire not properly connected to the lug, under a magnifying glass you could see the wire insulation was crimped but the wire was cut short and not actually in contact with the lug, a delicate but easy fix, when I checked what function this wire performed it was for 0v on the distribution board, this would explain the issues my R2 had.

My R2D2 is now performing as it should, apart from voice command issues covered in another post.
