After many many years of searching I have finally found a model of the fighting machine from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. I have been a fan of the musical since before I can remember, and would spend hours looking through the picture book that came with the double album and drawing the machines. The scene with the fighting machine and Thunder Child the Iron Clad particularly caught my imagination.
So my plan is to recreate the scene, need to find a suitable kit of the ship, and to use led lights to bring it to life. This will be a long build as I need to hollow out the body of the fighting machine as it is solid resin and in 2 halves. Plus routing the wiring up one of the legs, but I am sure I will find a way!BigGrin
Any who, here are some pictures of the kit and what I hope to recreate.

ooh that looks like it will be a great diorama. If you make the laser beam part wide enough you could run the wires up inside that. They also make really small lasers so you could actually put a real laser in the head too.How big is the body of the fighting machine?

I have the musical on my iphone.Cant beat Richard Burtons narration and David Essex singing

This is the body size, once hollowed out there is plenty of room.

fantastic, what scale is the fighting machine?

The picture Jef Wayne used is based upon a formidable class ship from around 1890s. so you could look for these ships there are some in resin or Mikasa is based upon that and you can get her in 1:700, 1:350 and 1:200

https://en.wikipedia.org...idable-class_battleship

you could try this manufacturer, kits are good and have lots from that period

http://combrig-models.co...00/royal-navy-1860-1918

looking forward to this

I regret that I have not seen the original tour live. I do have the DVDs for both the original and the new shows - and I much prefer the original to be frank.

Richard Burton's head, or Liam Neeson in hologram. For me, it's the head every time. Even though the new show includes a flame-spewing Martian.

Sorry Liam.

I'm not much of an avid sci-fi fan normally, but I do like the whole WotW thing and I'm sure you'll make a cracking job of this build with your skills Daran. Will be keenly following your diary. Drool

Well done mate. ThumpUp
