So I initially had a problem with my R2 not turning on at all. I reseated all cables into the MCU and it starts up great.

Now I have two issues, the lightsaber doesn’t seem to work at all. No response from the motor - it worked fine during the test when we first got the mags. Should I contact C/S for a new motor?

R2 when in patrol mode seems to crash into things as if his front sensors are not working. The rear ones seem okay. Again, they worked fine during testing in the mags.

Okay I fixed my lightsaber issues.

The only remaining issue I seem to have are the sensors while in patrol mode. Cables are definitely seated correctly. Has anyone else had this issue with R2 crashing into objects / trying to constantly go forward into an object? Do I need new sensors? Or anything I can do to test?

Is it patrol mode via the app or the button on R2?

Seems to do it with both. Just as if the sensors aren’t working at all. Even if I try place my hand in front of them on his legs, he doesn’t stop / detect an obstruction

Typically he actually seemed to perform a bit better under video. But as you can see on this clip - specifically towards the end. He's struggling a bit.

His general movement is okay. But then he'll either just go straight towards a wall or object like he does at the end of this video. Or he'll just seem to get stuck in one area like this.

From this video...and the first 2 attempts of me recording him, he does seem to almost detect the object there this time, as he stops and reverses back. Could it be just the right sensor isn't working?

What do you think?

Your video is a little short to get a good idea of what is happening could you provide one that is at least 60 seconds long showing from switch and travel and without edits if you can.

Yeah sorry I know it was short!!

I've added two more videos here. The first is directly after switch on which works perfectly fine, jolts forward, red light, turns head both ways and flashing purple light. The first video shows me pressing the 1st button for patrol mode.

To be honest, in this video he seems to react quite well. He looks like he might also be detecting the walls and avoiding them.

The video below, is from using patrol mode within the app. Had to cut to my camera after starting the patrol mode so cut a little shorter. In this video you see he starts off okay but after about 40 seconds he seems to get stuck. Is it just normal behaviour? He doesn't always detect the obstructions and that's just the way it is? Because he does seem better looking at this footage most of the time?

EDIT: Obviously I don't expect it to be perfect every time BigGrin That's wishful thinking!! But he was bumping into all sorts at the beginning....but he does seem better?

That was better,

When R2 is in auto patrol for example switch on and press button 1 he is using all of his sensors to find his way about and as you say he is reacting as he should be in that mode.

When you use the app to control him wether it is in direct or local you are still in control and telling him what to do even when you put him into patrol mode. The best way to to describe app control mode is like a game.

Ok your in app patrol mode off he goes and if you dont direct him he bumps straight into the sofa, wall, furniture or anywhere else the trick is you are stopping him from doing this as you are in control.

Take a look at page 16 of the 'User Guide' bottom right titled 'Please Note'

When you control him manualy, his sensors are switched off to make it easier to carry out tight manoeuvres, so avoid driving him into walls or over a drop where he might fall or suffer damage.

Ahh okay great, I know that when I first set him off in patrol mode from pressing button 1 he had some issues bumping into objects. But when I recorded the last few videos it did reassure me that he looked okay. Good news then, perhaps when I first used patrol mode his sensors weren’t right (I did try to reseat them a few times before the videos).

Although from the app patrol mode I guess that also makes sense - I didn’t notice the point on the user guide. Thanks for pointing that out.

Think I’m all set then as everything else seems to work okay!

Thanks a lot for your help :)
