Hi Everyone!

Hoping someone can help, I've read through the forums but don't see anyone describing a similar issue to mine.

To start off, Initially everything worked fine, powered up, connect to app and was off moving, sound working, camera working etc, very slight issue with the head turning very slowly, figured I'd check that out later (it moved fine during the self test so I put it down to the app control being the issue), turned it off and went to bed.

Now when I go to turn R2 on, it won't complete the startup. In fact it won't do anything at all unless I hold in the power button.

When holding in the power button it jerks forward, red light comes on the front and the head starts to rotate, but it some point during the roatation the red light starts to flash and the rotation stops (it will just keep flashing at me if I hold the button in).

Obviously I'm not meant to hold the power button in, so perhaps it then thinks I am trying to turn it off?

I've checked that there isn't an issue with the head rotation by lifting the head and moving it along a peg, there is no hindrance in the rotation and doesn't appear to be an issue with either sensor.

Tried plugging it into charge incase that was the issue, but no lights came on to indicate it was charging, so took the batteries back out and went through the charging process again (they were barely discharged but worth a try)

I've carefully went over all the wiring twice, removing and re-seating everything just to be sure, but get the same behaviour.

These are the batteries I have: https://18650.uk/product/samsung-30q-button-top/

I don't have any tools for testing voltages or anything like that, everything has been trial and error.

It's almost like everything is fine, but it doesn't want to stay powered on unless I hold the button down.

Anyway, hope someone has an idea!!

Thanks
Markwarren

It sounds like it could be an issue with the power button and switch pad. It may think you are switching it off by holding it in for a while as the front panel will turn red just before it shuts down.
Check the cables on the switch pad at the inside front panel, sometimes they may become over stretched when feeding the cable down.

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for replying.

I definitely agree it thinks I'm turning it off by holding the button in.

I've disconnected and rechecked all wires and connections twice, I don't see anything amiss. I've just rechecked the wire coming from the buttons but pins are all fine and reseated the wire just to be sure - unfortunately no change in behaviour.

Is it possible one of the board have went?

So frustrating considering it was working fine at first.

Thanks

It is very difficult to diagnose as I’m not in front of you R2. Could be that the front panel switch is not working quite right.
The first thing to check would be to see what voltage is coming from the battery box. If you know someone with a volt meter to check, that would be the ideal place to start. You should get 12.3v or so if it is working okay. Also just make sure all the cables are firmly in place, as they may look okay, but just need pushing in to make a better contact. If it still doesn’t work then the next step would be to replace the front panel switch.

Hi Mark,

I've pushed all connectors in to make sure they are in fully, (rechecked this again this morning). everything felt like it was already in., issue still present.

Unfortunately I don't have a voltmeter or access to one. I'd personally discounted this as an issue as it was working correctly one the first day I tried, it was only on the next day when I went to turn it on that this problem occured.

I did notice a thread with a similar issue to mine, where they say they only see any signs of life if they hold the button down.

If your unable to check the battery box output, then the next step is to swop the front panel switch, though could be futile if the problem lies with the battery box or batteries.

Hi

Disconnect the battery box terminals from the mcu, then put the prongs on the volt meter in the black ended terminal of the cable from the battery box. You can see on that cable it has two terminals which is postitive and negative, red and black cable feeding into the black end of the wire.

If should give a reading of 12.3v if everything is working normally.

You must disconnect the battery box from the mcu first before carrying out the test.

Good luck

Okay, so that seems to be working correctly, the next step would be to replace the front panel switch. Contact c/s for a replacement. Phone number is on the front inside cover.
