PLEASE HELP at ISSUE 53 Hi Folks, I have just started to build my son his R2D2 model and currently I have arrived at issue 53 as I have not been able to build it before due to an accident I was involved in but now I am fit and able to construct it but have discovered a problem which im struggling to overcome which is stopping me from building the unit... On page 14 of issue 53 , I have strictly followed the instructions from 1 to 8 but unfortunately the motor will not run and I have an engineer background and have checked all the connections and batteries !!! I do not possess the tools to check if the motor is faulty as the smaller control board appears to work as the lights on it work when I apply the battery but I am unaware if the larger board is defective... Any help or advice would be gladly appreciated !!! Cheers Paul

Hi Paul.
I assume you are just using the test board to power the motor - it should be straight forward but 1st thing is to check the battery pack & tester on something else 1st. Once that is confirmed working okay and you connect it up to the light-saber motor (remove it from the assembly) - if the motor runs on it's own then there maybe something stopping the runner in the tube (or it's at it's upper or lower limits)
have a play around, but certainly check the motor on it's own 1st, then check the mechanism on the tube

I had this exact problem too Paul. I found that I had to apply a little pressure on the 2 pin connector on the test board for it to work. I never looked into it closely enough to see if there was a soldering problem on the pins, or if the connector was the cause. You might want to use a multimeter to check for continuity of the test board to the motor if you haven't done it already. Current Builds: R2D2, Millenium Falcon

My batteries are brand new and a good make, certainly not cheap & nasty ones so I will update you on my checks !!! Cheers m8

Thanks for the advice Stwood6 as its reassuring to see that somebody else has had the same problem... I will try that what you suggest and report back to you my findings... My mulimeter is in my other house as I do not have it to hand as I think it would be a good idea to have it to hand during the construction and assembling of this model... Cheers m8 Paul

Well folks I have stripped it down and used my multimeter on the motor and its looking like its defective as suspected... I have contacted Customer Support for a replacement but Im still awaiting confirmation... Not good customer service as I would of thought all of these items would be tested prior to issuing but obviously not I guess !!! Sadly my boy will have to wait for his model but one thinks for sure, I will NEVER purchase another subscription again and I was premium spending almost £1000. Thank you to everybody who assisted and advised me on other fault finding diagnosis as we got there in the end even though plenty chose to ignore or criticise my request... Cheers folks
