This morning while having a coffee with the missus and a mate a guy overheard us talking and he heard me mention my Victory build..
He said he as the Albatross wooden model unopened and untouched.

He said him and his family are moving house and as not got time etc to build the ship and dont really want go take so he offered it to me for nothing.....

He asked for my address details and he is posting it on saturday from where he heading to today....
So i gave him £10 to send it..

Who's a lucky boy then....BigGrin BigGrin .. Am sure you'll love the kit when it arrives... Study the instructions carefully as I doubt you will find they are not as detailed and well laid out as that on the Victory. Good luck with the build...Cool Cool

The Albatros arrived today..
And lets say im glad i didnt pay full whack for it.
The main sheet with the false keel and the ribs is only 5mm thick and the sheet with the deck and other pieces are only 2mm..
Glad i didnt get this before i ordered the Victory as it would have put me right off....

Happy to hear you Albatros kit has arrived. Just goes to show the quality of materials provided with kits can vary quite alarmingly, the quality of DeAg's Victory is probably as good as you will see... Still, all good practice for you in becoming an experienced ship builder.....BigGrin BigGrin .. Good luck with the build and look forward to seeing how it all turns out...

Now i have had time to go over the materials it comes across as spend as little on materials to make maxium profit..

The ply for the false keel and the bulk is very very poor and instantly snappable....

The ply for the deck is paper thin and awful to hold.....

The planking to cover the deck well lets say im looking into buying some as its only fit for the bin....

The masts look ok.
And the hull planks look like some form of hard wood....

Bonus is the free tools......

The false keel was warped n bowed so i soaked and then put heavy weights on overnight and its dried and straightened.....

The bulk slots into the keel are to big so ive filed the keel slots n the bulk slots.....

Endless

Now going off the victory build and the quality of the ply for the false keel, bulkheads, ribs etc its fair to say you get what you pay for when i compare it the to the Albatros build..
The ply is so inferior its like something you would get during wood work lessons at school in my youth...

Are all kits builds by other manufacturers the same poor quality!!!!

Or are there some kits that are almost the same as De ags build kits...

I would not recommend this kit to anybody...

The make is Constructo.......
The bulkheads dont look right to me.....
I may have to put some extra balsa pieces next to each side of the bulk heads the rub them down......

To reiterate what insaid earlier how poor the ply is....
Well last night n today i finished laying the micro thin pieces of decking onto the false deck using contact glue then went out for a few hrs while it dried and then started on the fairing..

Disgusted to say the least.
I spent several hrs upon fairing both sides and i then siaked two pieces of decking which look like a hard wood..
Anyway the ply for the false keel and the bulkheads is nothing more than two slithers of the cheapest plywood with a layer of what looks like polyfilla but a tad harder...
The ply just splits when you start the rub down Angry

So im going to get some 3mm balsa and glue a piece to each side of the bulkhead and clamp them over night..

I even tried a piece of soaked planking i wiped off the excess water but the bulk head soaks it right up......

I was looking forward to this pre victory build to give an insight into fairing n planking..

BigGrin Hi ant the wood looks like Sapele a Mahogany look a like but a lot lot cheaper and is very brittle. If this is a old kit it might have dried out so soaking it water for a few minutes makes it a lot easier to use Cool
Hope this helps
