I was considering painting the hull of my Vic that colour to give it that worn with age look, but for the life of me couldn't think of a way to get that exact effect (like, what colours do you use...green, obviously...but)???

If it was me, I would think twice before going for the green look. The cannon in the picture is a spanish bronze cannon and goes that colour because of the copper in the alloy.

As far as I can find out, the 4 pounder cannon on Endeavour would have been iron guns. Any gunner worth his salt had his own 'formula' for a blacking which was applied to the cannon to prevent any rusting. I would suggest a dull, metallic black finish.

As usual Mike your advice is excellent and timely, I will go for that colour on the guns thank youBigGrin BigGrin LOL

On another topic I am going to purchase the ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT from De Ag it is 1/50 scale and will complement the ENDEAVOUR which is 1/48 scale and of course the quality and detail will be much better than the one that comes with the buildBigGrin

If I've read this right there seem's to be some confusion, Mike T is talking about a canon rather a copper hull.

For a hull verdigris effect, there are specific 'verdigris effect' paint kits available, and for the same effect on copper tiles, there is a patination fluid which gives a verdigris effect.

Sorry about that!

Had my second cup of tea and woken up now! Should have read Jonny's reply more carefully. Blushing Tomick has cleared the confusion! Cannons matt black and copper hull with copper paint or a verdigris finish - unless of course you are going for the real copper!!Cool

LOL BigGrin I am not happy with the cannons supplied on this build by eagle moss, the cradle is to big and not in scale and the trucks are out of proportion, the cannon itself is poor Quality.

I will purchase new guns and carriages, will keep you postedLOL

mwg mate,I affraid I have to disagree with you the scale of the cannon and truck, don't forget it is 1/48th.although I agree with the quality,I think a reasonable job could be made of them.

Hi Karl, when the gun is fitted to the carriage, there is to much space between the barrel and the side of the carriage (the carriage is poor quality cast in metel) I am afraid for my Endeavour I will fit a better more accurate product,I was told before I started the build that I would find some parts lacking in quality, this is only my opinion, but I appreciate your point of view mate LOL Wink

Hi MWG, have you thought of constructing your own gun carriage out of wood mate? Knowing your flare for detail,I reckon you could create something far better??

On the AL site the scale of 1/35 is incorrect and should read 1/50, so De Ag discription is correct as usual. http://www.historicships...ndeavourLong%20Boat.htm Please check this link.

hi mwg, there's something wrong here with the scale size, according to my quick calculation,1/50scale x163/4" equates to 65foot er bit long?I will have a look around,1/35 scale I make about 40foot,sounds more like it.but me not an expert on longboats.
