Walter, Phil, thanks for looking in and your comments, appreciated.....Cool Cool

Time now to assemble the grating for the first deck. Started by taking 4 grating strips and gluing together to make up a square, ensuring the corners were set at 90 degrees. Once dried, then glued in position the remaining strips to make up one complete grating 14x14 squares.

When dry, cut the grating into two pieces, each 6 x 14 squares and sanded the edges smooth. From one of the pieces cut 3 smaller pieces, each 6 x 4 squares. The other grating piece cut two pieces, one 6 x 5 squares and another 6 x 3 squares and again sanded all the edges smooth.

Laid out the grating as shown in the instructions and glued all the pieces together, then painted the assembly red. Next, took a 3x3mm wooden strip and using the shaping tool shaped the strip along its length and sanded smooth, then stained the strip using a dark wood stain. Cut 4 lengths from the strip to go around the outside of the grating assembled earlier, cutting the ends of the strips to a 45 degree angle. Test fitted against the grating and when happy glued the strips in place.

Whole assembly was then glued to the deck of the ship and left to dry. This brings to an end stage 55, so until next time happy modelling all....Cool Cool

Regards

Alan

In this build session we concentrate on assembling and fitting 16 ammo boxes that sit beside the cannons. From 1x3mm wooden strips created the 16 ammo boxes. These are exactly the same as those constructed in stage 20 so the build process will not be repeated here. Once assembled they were then painted red and filled with the cannon balls. Cannon balls were glued in place with a tiny drop of superglue. Once all was dry they were then glued into position on the deck as shown within the instructions.

Took the two cast vents, cleaned off any burrs, primed and painted black. These were then glued into position. This brought to a close stage 56 so until next time, happy modelling all..Cool Cool

Thanks everyone for looking in again and all the nice comments, appreciated as always....Cool Cool

@Walter - the ammo boxes were fiddly especially as the joints are all mitred. When I made an 11x11mm square frame I found them a lot easier to put together by assembling them inside the frame. Not only that, it also ensured they were all the same size....Cool Cool

Thanks Mark, appreciated.....Cool Cool

Channels, removed the bow and main channels from the fret plus 36 very small support pieces. All parts were cleaned off being careful not to see any of the support pieces go flying off into the distance. Test fitted the channels against the hull and made some very slight adjustments to ensure a good fit. Marked off the support positions then glued the supports on one side and left to dry. Turned them over and glued the supports on the other side in a mirror image.

Removed the stern channels from the fret together with a further 12 support pieces, noting the support pieces here are two different sizes that are even smaller than the first batch. Test fitted and assembled the channels in the same way as the bow and main channels.

Channels were then painted black and left to dry before being glued in position as set out in the instructions. This brought to an end stage 57 so until next time, happy modelling all....Cool Cool

Regards

Alan
