So, I finished my build today, and having read these threads for the last 6 weeks, turned r2 on for the first time with no small sense of trepidation.
And...
Everything worked perfectly first time.
The lightsaber, the holograms, voice control, sensors, everything.
I'm not posting this to rub it in to those having problems. I just thought others who are approaching the end of their build might like to see that some r2's DO work fine.
If it helps anyone, I bought the pink Samsung batteries, plugged every plug in slowly and carefully, then pushed EVERY pin down with a toothpick (and it was very surprising how far some of them pushed down).

Nice to hear it is all working,  I did exactly the same with a cut down skewer to push the connection in firmly. Sanded the point down a bit first though. Mark
