Well I couldn't resist it anymore! I did make a start and then put it up due to family commitments and life changes. But it is now time to get on with it now I have my mojo back.BigGrin
As the title says this will be an epic build. The basic kit will build into a stunning model, but there are some issues, turret will not turn 360 degrees as the ammo racks are wrong, and there are various parts missing that are noticable. So I have a signed copy of David Parkers book to guide me. I will not be following his build to the letter, for 1 it took him years to build, and 2, a lot of the mods he made will never be seen unless you dismantle the kit. I will be making the mods that can be seen and that add detail.Cool
Fist up is the basic lower hull and engine compartment. There is a lot of detail to add here, weld seams, torch cutting marks and wires, cables and rods. Everything you see here is all dry fit as I will be taking parts in and out th check for fit, and also there are some ejector pin marks that need addressing, although I will not be filling them all as some cannot be seen.
So essay over, I will leave you with some progress pictures, and update as I go.BigGrin Cool

Is this the usual trumpeter "lets make this detail out of 50 tiny parts " kit?

Yep that's the one, but I do like their big scale kits. The T34-85 I built was a lovely kit.Cool

Thank you all for looking in and your comments.BigGrin

Next step is the time consuming part, filling gaps and sinkholes and checking and rechecking the fit of the parts. There is plenty of fit issues with this kit, and time spent now will turn a nice build into a stunner. David Parker spent 44 months correcting his King Tiger, I will not be going as far as he did as most of the changes will never be seen, but I will be working on those areas that can be. Cool

Thanks for looking in and your comments everyone.BigGrin Cool
I have started on the mods on the basic hull, replicating cut marks and weld on the interlocks. I used a blade scribe, fine point soldering iron on low heat and Mr Surfacer which will be added in layers to get the desired effect. I have also replaced the solid handles with metal ones on the access hatches on the rear wall.Cool
