So everything else seems to have gone well with my R2-D2 build, however the front light doesn't turn on and the lightsaber pushes up when I choose that option, but never goes back down.
I'm guessing the light connections could be wrong but why would the lightsaber not go back down? It's just stuck there and I can't push it down either. I probably could with force but that's risking breakage.

Check all the cables are in the right slots and pushed in firmly.

After a check in the dome, I saw that the red light connection wasn't in properly, that now works. However the lightsaber connection was right, and it still doesn't work at all. I opened up the section where the motor is and the motor just doesn't turn at all anymore. I guess the motor is broken and I need another?

As it worked the first time going up, the first step should be to check the lead from the sensors, and the sensors themselves.

If the sensors are the wrong way round, it could be that if you are trying to get it down, the sensors think it is already there.
