Hello Guys, Thanks for the good comments. Various issues:- enforcing planking added to the gunwales - notches filed to the boats as rowlocks - bottom of the boats painted white - upper rows painted yellow ochre on cutter and pinnace Then came the trouble...I don't know what have I done wrong, but when I removed the masking tape it peeled off the white paint from the hull ... I used the same masking tape I used earlier, never happened this before... maybe I sanded the hull too smooth, hence the paint didn't stick to it... - I removed the flaking paint and masked the hull for the black and green stripes. Of course, same thing happened after I removed these masking tape too... - I didn't see the point to use the masking tape again, because I was sure, that it will keep peeling off the paint. So I ended up painting the keels and correcting the missing white paint with free hand. Definitely this isn't a job to someone with shaky hands. Anyhow, I managed to correct the trouble and paint the keels without any noticeable error. - thwarts and seats cut to size, painted and fitted to all three boats. - barrel and bucket painted and fitted to launch - three rudders assembled and started to paint - oars sprayed with primer, started to paint with white gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Any thoughts on the next build?
Hi Tomick, Thanks. I always wanted to build a wooden ship but I don’t think that there will be a next one. I think I’m a one-time-builder because I don’t have a permanent model shop to keep building, also I don’t have the space to store the finished models. This ship will take the only available space in our house. This build required to occupy the dining table for a year, I don’t think my wife will let me do it again. The only thing which can happen is the Victory cross section, because it might fit inside the ship’s display cabinet and I think they would look great together, but is still under concideration. Hello All, As I mentioned, I'll keep posting progress about the build of my display cabinet. Although it's not a model, hopefully the admins won't have any issues with posting them here, as it's related to my Victory build. As a first step, I cut the 20x20 aluminium profiles to size and assembled. It will be the frame for the base. Initially I wanted the base as a one solid sheet of wood, but I found it being way too heavy, hence the use of the profiles. After assembly I hung it up with nylon ropes (as intended in the final design) and concept is ready for load test, as a first step mainly for the ropes. Total load of approx 45kgs placed on frame, the load represents the weight of the glass panels. The ropes look OK (well, hope so, as they specified for 150kgs), however on the profiles I might need to go for one size bigger (30x30) because the long ones bend approx 6-8mm in the middle Anyhow, as currently the ropes are the subject of the test, it doesn't really matter if the frame slightly bent. I'll leave it hanging for a while... Obviously, I would be devastated if the cabinet would fall down... of course mainly for Health&Safety reasons but I also would be heartbroken for the ship. gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building! Hello All, First, let me wish a late happy new year to all, I've been busy with my display cabinet lift mechanism. - Gear box parts were machined (CNC) from aluminium. - Vertical support brackets precisely drilled on CNC. - All parts assembled. End result is pretty much the same as on the plan. 1st no load functional test performed... Passed... motor shaft actually driven by a battery screwdriver, but proves that the mechanics works seamlessly, four sliders (guide the rope for even winding) moves nicely. You can check a video about trial on my public facebook album: https://www.facebook.com/laszlo.for/posts/2293533973990756gingerale75 attached the following image(s): Happy building!
