Good evening from 'The Dockyard'.

This week continues with the building and modifying of the 2.0cm Flak 38 double barrelled guns that will locate on the top deck of the conning tower.

The next step was to make the gun operators handles. Using 0.8mm diameter plastic rod, I bent each piece around a needle file before clamping it to the file and immersing in hot water to form the shape.

The attached photo shows the completed handles fixed to the guns with the 3D printed original next to them.

The next step was the tricky part; fixing the a-frames that support the guns onto their mounts. Blink

Using plastic rod and 0.5mm diameter brass rod to act as securing pins, i finally got the guns mounted, hinges working.

Next up; the guard rails!

I started by making 17 guard rail supports. The guard rails slot into these supports and are positioned around the perimeter of the lower deck.

I began by drilling out 1.5mm x 1.0mm strip with a 0.8mm diameter drill to accept the brass tube that will make up the guard rails. 17 holes in total. I then cut each side of the holes and filed these to clean them up. To prevent the brass tube from sliding all the way through, i then glued each individual square to a 1.5mm x 1.5mm strip and then filed and cleaned up each piece.
