I decided to continue planking this side and use up all the planks I had received so far ( 2 packs 20 planks per pack)I was very happy withe the result, although the planks as I mentioned before did not have consistant thickness, but as this is a double planked model the thickness is not critical heres how she looked after the planking :-

Hi MWG...

The Endeavour is looking good, you are well ahead of the weekly build mag.
As you say they only show one line of planking.... odd to me!
If it is not that inportant to the firt layer of planking you would have thought they would show a complete planked side as the vanear will cover mistakes, but never vaneared before...Blushing

But your build is looking really great.

Ian

Hi Ian and thank you for your words of encouragementBigGrin

The first planking must not have any big dents or peaks as these will show through when we veneer, so I am being real careful on the first level of planking.

You say you have not veneered before, dont worry you have some good people in the forum to call on, you only have to ask, your build is looking greatCool

Hi everyone here is the next instalment of my Endeavour build.

I an continuing with the Hull planking, first up I am covering how I prefer to bend planks to go round those tricky curvesBlink we have one of those curves on the Bow of this Ship, here is what I do:-

1) Put the planks in a suitable recepticle.

2)Fill with very hot water.

3)Place a heavy object on the planks to keep the submerged.

4)Leave for 30 mins at least.

Here are some photosBigGrin

Next I take these wet planks and fit them to the ship WITHOUT GLUEING!!!useing pins/nails/clamps depending on space.

At this point they do not have to be fitted in the exact position, but they do have to be fitted to the curve.
Leave them to dry out completly at least 24 hours, then remove them, and shape them if you have to, then fit them. Some more photos:-

THIS IS MY METHODE OTHER PEOPLE ON THE FORUM WILL HAVE THERE OWN PREFFERED WAY OF BENDING PLANKS!ThumpUp

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, hold on mwg,if I remember rightly, the bow will be filled in with ply formers, similar to the balsa you have already done.but carry on if you fill confident enough.

You are right Karl about the formers, but all the bulwarks including the bulwark at the Bow are planked with the first planking, this is where I am upto at the moment (ran out of planks)
