Could be, I noticed they locked the battery thread before they left. It's been locked for over 2 months now.Flapper

I dread to think what customers that don't frequent this forum have done to get batteries.Confused

No, they're definitely here. I posted yesterday about the lack of information on the battery offer we were promised, that post has vanished.

So we definitely have admins here, but no new information from them.

Thanks for raising this topic. Admins have not gone away as such, but there is a restructuring process under way in how admin functions are dealt with and this will take a while to implement.

it might be good for the operators of the site to post some news to the forum as a whole and tell the users what is going on.

when it seems like folks just disappear it can give the wrong impression to the users.

Just for a little bit of clarification, I am posting this from the "This R2 unit has a bad motivator" thread. I am clipping out the parts of that post that are not directly relating to this topic.

UPDATE: Admin position clarified:

Keith, I've been seeing someone called "Moderator" recently saying he's passed issues over to some tech team for help - DeAg seems to have screwed the old admins over, and they've all resigned. DeAg has lied to us on many occasions - like telling us a battery offer would be published before Issue 90 was ever released - and they've had enough of it.

So it seems like all we will ever get from now on is

and we can all tell that "appropriate sources" means CS.

Well you can now stick a fork in me - I'm done. This was my first foray into partwork model-building and it's likely to be my last. £900+ sunk into this, no battery supply, seeing numerous fault threads for every thread proclaiming a working model, and now a forum that will devolve into "I've passed that to CS for you." for every problem.

Sorry, no longer interested in wasting my disposable income or my time that way.

My sentiments exactly, a copy of my post in "Deaf and blind" thread a couple of weeks ago.

""@ Coser you are right but unfortunately even if you get to the point that he boots up OK, you will be stifled by the useless software/firmware that no one will take responsibility for even though all in all we have spent a small fortune for something that really is nothing more than an embarrassment when people ask to see him working.

@ Javier firstly Google translate seems to be doing a great job! As you said it is impossible to leave the robot on for any more than about 30secs without him trying to commit suicide or breaking anything else by knocking items over or anything else! Facial recognition is another almost complete failure as it doesnt work properly. Even if you do get it to recognise you (hardly ever) the facial tracking doesn't really work unless you move at an impossibly slow speed.

Not only disappointed but also quite angry about the lack of info or anything just seems to be ignored or brushed over. Seriously considering getting a refund even that wouldn't compensate the amount of my time I have put into building this thing."

And I wish you well in getting that refund.

I have the impression that any attempt to get money back will involve lawyers fees that will possibly eat up more money than you have spent so far, and certainly more stress and aggravation than you have had before.

I don't believe I will ever get a working R2 unit as promised, but at this stage, I'm not going to throw good money after bad either!

Hi guys,

Regarding batteries; the Samsung batteries are quite good. Additionally, I recently tested batteries for DeAgostini that work easily as well as the Samsung ones. These (the type I tested) will be for sale soon via the ModelSpace shop. I’m afraid I don’t have a specific timeframe though.

There is an excellent UK source for the batteries if you don’t want to wait for them to appear in the shop. (And having R2 just sit there, looking at you can be frustrating) Just google “Samsung 30Q”

I hope this helps.

you say you have tested batteries that 'work well', may i ask how much actual knowledge you have of 18650 cells??

there are many batteries out there that 'meet the given specs required' but there are also many hundreds more that don't meet the required specs, or even give any for that fact. there are also many hundreds more that are fake and very easy to purchase - these are extremely dangerous as was very recently shown on a BBC program where someone bought a head torch for running at night that used 18650 batteries. it turned out the battery in the torch was fake and resulted in the torch simply blowing up in the persons car!!

how difficult really is it for de agostini to give details of a reputable uk supplier? i agree that many people have sourced their own, and most from the same supplier, but come on - we were first told about the battery offer from September last year. 8 months ago by my calculations. it simply appears that de agostini are doing absolutely nothing and not a single person on this forum believes a word that anyone is saying.

rest assured that de agostini's reputation will be in tatters after this (worse than it already is in public opinion judging by trust pilot reviews and other reputable consumer websites). it doesn't take much for word to get out on social media and you will start to loose money. i for one would not recommend any product in the future to any anybody from this company and would probably actively seek to dissuade anyone from ever making a purchase.

customer service hasn't just been less than satisfactory it has been non existent. communications from the company have also been non existent regarding problems, changes, fixes to the many atrocious errors in the instructions and communications regarding the batteries has simply stopped. 8 months (well 2 yeras and 8 months if you count build time too) and no word kind of gives enough proof the company is doing nothing. the manufacturers would have known right from the beginning what the power source would be.
