Hi people.

Just completed R2, instructions followed obsessively to the letter, correct batteries sourced, purchased, charged and inserted correctly. App downloaded and installed on phone. Instructions on activation followed to the very letter.

Nothing.

Well, O.K., not nothing. light comes on in dome, R2 lurches forward a short way and occasionally beeps. Camera seems to work. Apart from that, nothing.

Any ideas?

Anyone?

Please??Confused

UPDATE: Admin position clarified:

Keith, I've been seeing someone called "Moderator" recently saying he's passed issues over to some tech team for help - DeAg seems to have screwed the old admins over, and they've all resigned. DeAg has lied to us on many occasions - like telling us a battery offer would be published before Issue 90 was ever released - and they've had enough of it.

Reading several of the troubleshooting threads on here, they all start by checking the voltage output from the battery box, to ensure that's giving out the right amount of power - is that something you can do?

After that, seems to be checking the cabling to the MCU (and the power on that side), and then requesting a replacement MCU - that might be the best approach for you to take (TBH, given this heinous lack of support, I'd be strongly tempted to order a replacement MCU, PI, head sensors and motors too, just in case).

Sorry I can't be of more help, I am building mine next weekend and I'm terrified this is gonna happen to me too!

Basic steps always seem to be:
1 Check you really have the proper batteries. They seem to be hard to identify.
2 Are you getting the proper voltage out of the battery box.
3 Double check that every plug is fully installed with no bent pins.
4 For a non-functioning motor, do the motor test for the legs. Same motor for head.
5 Start ordering new boards.

Like IanW,I'm still working on mine. Up to issue 84 so far. Hoping for the best.

thank you for the suggestions. I guess my next step is to demand a new mcu then. I have checked, double checked and then checked again all things like correct batteries, board connections etc. R2 does lurch forward a couple centimetres but the dome does not turn. The charging light does not change colour but I occasionally get a few random beeps. using the phone app, I can get the camera to work, but thats it.

I tried on a couple of occasions to call them, but got directed here.

I shall call them again today and mention legal action unless they eithetr

a. send me the parts required to make R2 work
b. refund the entire cost

it is clear that R2 has issues, and should not have been offered for sale.

If I can offer some advice, Keith, for the sake of keeping your own inner peace, I'd say that you are perfectly within your rights to ask for replacement parts until your R2 is fully working, and that CS do know this, and are happy to supply as many parts as you need, as many times as needed, until it's working.

They've demonstrated this to everyone on the forums, many times; the only time they don't send the issues out is when DeAg mess up the stock levels, and specific issues go out of stock.

In addition, CS have absolutely no connection with anyone legally responsible for R2 working or not, so the best you'll be able to accomplish by mentioning legal action is a delay in getting what you want, and it won't make any difference at all to anyone.

R2 is a very complicated computer setup, and trying to produce something that can be built by the everyman is difficult and fragile: the number of problems it has are inevitable, but as long as CS are willing to fix it by providing whatever replacements we ask for, I can't see how they can do more?

One more thing I'd suggest: tackle the problems strictly one at a time; otherwise you'll be chasing your tail and unable to progress anything.

Start with the battery pack voltage, because if it's not giving enough power, the startup sequence isn't going to run. Then tackle every step of the startup sequence until that works: that will cover 90% of the problems we've seen on here.

Not quite sure if that's quite right! Customer Services are employed by De agostini I assumed that they were there to deal with issues that we have!

Try fixing the software/firmware!

Hi Keith. Thanks for your post. Your R2's symptoms have been referred to the appropriate sources to get some technical input. Hope to get back to you soon. All best wishes.
