Seems that Deag/MS have perfected a black hole and not told anyone. Things are known to go into a black hole and never be seen again. For example: A working forum support team Official builds Official videos Full kits that are not quite "FULL" Deliveries that don`t get "DELIVERED" Promised accessories: R2 Batteries - Standart lighting kit Help with R2 issues - awaitng "Project Team response" But all is not negative: We have SPAM on the forum for hours"THANKS" A moderator who pops in for a few minutes a day and An R2 battery expert who has tested batteries and said they will be available shortly. Refer back to the black holeNow when the Moderator reads this I have a feeling that this will be my last ever post on this forum as I`ll most likely be banned and if that is the case then that explains why this forum is going down the tubes or into the aforementioned "BLACK HOLE" Been nice knowing you all. I seriously hope not Derek, as you are only stating what many are thinking. If Modelspace/DeAgostini don't get their act together i can see a mass exodus from this forum, which will be a crying shame Admittedly, i have my own axe to grind, but that's another story Regards Gray

There do seem to be quite a few issues lately, a lot of noise around R2-D2 problems, Millennium Falcon deliveries not being fulfilled. Losing Tommick from this forum as been a blow. I'm having a few issues myself and not getting much joy from CS. I really hope this isn't the beginning of the end for DeAgostini. I also hope this isn't the last time we'll be hearing from you Derek. Graham I was drowning my sorrows. But my sorrows they'd learned to swim.

Regards delboy271155 (Derek) I had not really been on the forum for some time but was rather "shocked" when i popped back in recently. Tomick seems to have made his last post back on 21st Feb at just after 8am and 11:20 on the same day was the last time he visited. All of the forum support chaps appear to have had that function removed. And while i really do feel for all the builders having problems, especially it seems with the r2d2, there seems to be more (valid) complaints appearing on the board than i have ever seen before. Possible because they were dealt with in the past as PM messages? Again the official builds appear to have come to a grinding halt and while it was always a privilage rather than a right to have these, there have been times when i have gained more from the official build than the magazine instructions. In terms of maybe the angle a picture is taken making things clearer. And then i saw the post from Jase saying he is going to post most of his builds elsewhere in the future. All a bit worrying as i have a number of deagostini builds on the go so i hope there is nothing "sinister" in what is happening. I have had to raise some issues with CS and while persistance has seen most resolved i am waiting a replacement porsche body. Because my builds at the moment are "screw together" kits on the whole i have not put up any build diaries because i would not be showing anything different to the kit instructions. Might just settle a few minds if the company could post an update on what is going on and why things have taken the direction they have. I know there has been talk for some time of a new forum layout so are these recent changes something to do with that maybe? Hope you stay with it Derek. Tony Happy Modelling

Derek I also agree the forum is going down the pan. The final straw for me was when my build log of hms terror suddenly disappeared without trace much like the real thing (thank you to Gandale for help trying to recover it ). The R2 D2 partworks seems to be a disaster, selling full kits without all the parts has to be wrong. Maybe Jase had the right idea. Man he took his time in the sun Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand He gave birth to poetry But one day will cease to be Greet the last light of the library...We were here!

Sadly there is a large feeling of discontent over the forum now which seems to have spiralled downward badly since Tomick suddenly vanished...
With stuff being cancelled left right and centre, builds stopping, competitions 'on hold' it doesn't look good.

It seems that the new Mod doesn't have the time to put into the forum that Tom used to. Tom was on here almost all day, every day, posting chit-chat, answers and updates.
I'm assuming the new Mod has another job with DeAg/MS, and the forum has been put on him to manage as and when he can. I may be wrong, but hopefully he'll a good handle on it all and the forum will pick up again.

I see we now have 'Admin' and not just 'Moderator'... Hopefully they can fix a broken forum.

I also think that the forum has taken a severe nosedive since Tom left, but I don't think that is the sole contributing factor. I think that long before Tom left the forum was already turning towards a steady decline simply because although we now have nearly 8000 members, there have been just a few dozen regular contributors and of those few, even less who posted several times a day and even less who consistently post build diaries for the rest to look at!
I'm not suggesting that everybody should post regularly, a lot of people simply don't have the time, but from my own experience as a regular contributor on this forum since when the 1:8 McLaren MP4/23 was first released and I joined the forum under the username 'SennaMentalMe', then left and returned as 'Modelmania'. left again and returned under my current username of 'Kev the Modeller', it has always been the same. A few regulars doing all of the work, with far too many not contributing at all or just popping in when they have a problem and think they can just take advice through the hard won years of experience from others and run away with it failing to give something in return to the forum by supporting it through posting diaries or helpful tips and advice of their own!
In short, there is FAR too much apathy for this forum to succeed and I fear it may continue on it's downward spiral hereafter. I have seen a lot of good modellers disappear from this forum over the years that I have been a member in one form or another, and since Tom left I am now seeing the last few remaining members that were until recently regular contributors, and also modellers of a good standard, that were willing to help others, now doing so less and less, most likely for the same reasons that I mentioned above that they are becoming fed up, like me, of always giving and rarely getting anything back in return. It takes a lot of time and effort to post diaries with photos and to post replies to others' queries, and for little or no reward!
There is an old saying … "Use it or lose it".
Not enough members are using this forum, so in my opinion it is almost certainly doomed to failure and we WILL lose it, probably sooner rather than later and I put the blame not on Tom's disappearance or on any of the regular guys but squarely at the feet of those who have constantly taken and not given anything back!
Personally, I am giving this forum just a little while longer to show an upward turn, mainly because I've enjoyed being a member and miss the old days, so this forum holds sentimental value for me, but if it doesn't, and I suspect it won't, then I will shortly be moving on to better forums where a much higher percentage of the membership take an active role in keeping it alive.
It will be a very sad day for me when it does die as this used to be a very good forum, but no longer I'm afraid - it has become boring and I seriously think it's days are numbered. I have tonight registered with another forum in preparation for my leaving - and it will be final this time - if things don't rapidly improve on ModelSpace!

I'm sure we all appreciate your detailed post Kev, but sadly, I think there isn't much changing.

I agree with a lot of what has been said. Unfortunately the response from what has been said here has fallen on deaf ears from the current admin team. Structure needs to be put in place as before, and until then nothing will improve.

Hi Kev, Your last post are my words entirely, like you I will be very sad to see the forum end as it has been great fun over the years, but I fear there is more to it ? Tom would not just walk away, that is probable the reason we have not had a word from admin. Regards Trev. Work in progress: Tombstone (Scratch) - San Francisco 2. -The Mayflower ( scratch by plan).

It's very sad to hear something like that. This forum was my main source of information when I went back into the partwork modelling world in 2015. It was an amazing experience so far, I really hope the forum will be back to life very soon!

Thank you posters in this topic for your thoughts concerning the forum. Hopefully the following will address some of the points raised.
First and foremost, Model Space is committed to keeping the forum going.
Regarding the issues raised by delboy271155 in Post 1 of this topic:
Working forum support team Since the changes in February, members have still been offering advice, support and encouragement throughout the forum, which is much appreciated. How to move forward with the support offered to forum users is under consideration and any suggestions forum members might have will be most welcome.
Official builds Steps are being taken that will result in the resumption of Official Build Diaries. Model Space would like these to continue.
Full kits that are not quite full Any subscriber who does not receive all the parts that should be in a parts pack should ask for a new one free of charge from Customer Services. As has been stated elsewhere in the forum, the forum is not the place to pursue customer services issues.
Deliveries that don’t get delivered Again, customer services is the place to go for issues such as these.
Promised accessories R2 batteries – Model Space is aware of the batteries issue will post an update on this ASAP.
Standart lighting kit – Model Space is aware of the lighting kit issue and these lighting kits will be available to buy on the ModelSpace website soon!
Help with R2 issues R2 is an intricate and richly featured model and because of this many of the issues being raised are unique and general advice is not always applicable. A system is now in place for individual queries about R2-D2 to be answered by the Project Team. The first answers are just starting to come through and will be posted to the appropriate topics or members will be sent a PM if, for instance, more info is needed to diagnose a problem.
SPAM All regular users of the forum will be aware that there has been reduced Admin input over the last few weeks. One of the consequences of this has been that on a couple of occasions, spam has remained visible for longer than it should. Steps are being taken to reduce this problem. There are also some technical issues relating to the “Report Spam” and “Report Abusive” features of the forum which, if there are large number active discussions, might mean that spam could get missed. If any spam remains on the forum for more than a few hours a PM to Moderator will get a response.
