Hi Ant62, looking good you must be very pleased with your work, those ports are a bit trick at best, with my build i drilled around the shape and then used a small file to finish off. trev. Work in progress: Tombstone (Scratch) - San Francisco 2. -The Mayflower ( scratch by plan).

I have almost completed the 3rd level of canon ports and according to the official videos i should have painted cut the 20mm and 15mm blocks.. Now these length of wood are not in the packets stage as or as in the videos or the pdf.... So do i cut them and place them to cover the upper deck canon port as in the picture.. Yes, they serve two purposes.
Firstly they need to be drilled to take the dummy cannon so they need to go above half way. Secondly, the whole area needs to be painted black in order not to let light though.
These should have been in place before laying the middle deck.

I went off track a few times during the build for a reason but you need to be absolutely clear what you are doing and why. Generally though, it is best to follow the build process to the letter, even if it might mean waiting, to ensure that you can do what you have to do at a later time.

Quite easy done to go off course... So justvto clarify the cut blocks are to be placed behind the upper deck canon port make it look like the lower decks.... Building. HMS Victory..... No, I took a different route on occasion but I did a lot of research to make sure I didn't create any problems for the future. As I say though, at the detailed level, it's important to follow the instructions fully.

It goes behind the port in order to take the dummy cannon. You will need to drill into it right in the centre of the gun port.
