I completed the R2D2 and it is dead. I followed the instructions , may have plugged charger in while R2 was on, don't know. I get nothing. I verified batteries, they are what is called for in the instructions. I tried to use a multi-meter and got nothing out of the battery box. I took batteries out, checked other connections, and am now so confused I have no idea what to do with my $1200 rock. Can anyone please help me?

If you are getting no voltage out of the battery pack, that should tell you something - check the batteries are actually touching the metal contacts inside (& are the correct way round too). Some people have been finding that the battery box may have excess plastic stopping the +ve terminal of the batteries from touching the terminals in the battery box.

---

Another test you can do is to plug in the charger & turn on R2 at the base, then press the on button on the front of R2 - see if that does something. If that doesn't work try pressing and holding in the same button and see if that makes any change.

Thank you for answering and I tried what you suggested, but it is still a rock. I am getting power out of the battery box, I unplugged the power lead and, the big red connection, there was power to that. So there is power in, but pressing the switch on the front while the charger is plugged in, does nothing. Do you have any other suggestions? One thing I did notice before I posted begging for help, there was an electric arc when I plugged the charge in. Is there anyway I can narrow down where the power stops. I have checked a lot of the connections, but some are hidden.

I still need help. I have gotten no help from Model-Space. They keep telling me to go to the forum and there is all sorts of help here. They cannot even refer me to any supervisor or anyone that could help. So I am at the forum again. My R2D2 is not working, I explained in other posts what I did. Is there anyone here that can help me?

Only a third the way thru my build. But check out world if waynes build videos. He gives the precise startup procedure for r2. According to the mag if the procedure is not carried out then r2 will not work. The r2 unit has to be primed with the power pack prior to running on batteries otherwise it wont turn on. Wayne has two vids. Charging the batteries and initial turn on process. Hope that helps.

Which manufacturers batteries did you get? It seems they are not all created equal. The Samsung batteries are yielding the best results, while the UltraFire batteries don’t seem to be up the task. (I personally experienced this) The next potential source is the MCU, followed by the PCB. Make absolutely certain that ALL batteries are making contact within the box. Visually inspect, and not just with a multimeter. The next step is to check every single connection, starting with the right leg. During the boot-up sequence, the right leg is pinged first. It contains an encoder that is pass/fail.

Checking all the connections is a royal pain, but faulty connections have been the cause of numerous failed startups.

Let us know how it goes!

Let me state that first of, I have not gotten to the battery stage yet. As a technician, logic steps would be to follow the exact instructions starting with issue 92. Prepare the batteries or at least make sure they are ready. Then go on through the rest of the steps for charging.
Barring that, I would say you have a wiring issue. Plug in backwards, pinched wire, etc.

One thing that sticks out in my mind is that you said arced when you plugged in the power. Did you have the charger plugged into the AC plug at the time you plugged it into R2? If there was an arc, one of the circuit bards or even one of the batteries may have been damaged by a power surge.
Good luck
Fred

Thank you everyone for the replies. I will try to answer them all now.
The batteries are XTAR. I double checked with the distributor and they verified that they are correct as per the DeAgostini instructions. I checked them on my multi-meter and also the batter charger sent in one of the issues. They were fully charged. I also used the multi-meter to check the wires coming out of the battery box and all was good there. All connections were fine and I also did every check that was called for when assembling. The only thing that did not work was one foot sensor, they sent another and it did not work either when hooked up to the test card and the little battery box. Issue 97 had a paper page inserted that dealt with the pug-in connectors. Doing it the way it was directed in the instruction, the connector is plugged in correctly but the wires do not match the picture. They are backwards. RF.M issue 97 picture 10B. Would that be a problem? The blue wires are on the outside if I insert them according to the instructions.
The charger was plugged in at the time, I assumed it was supposed to be turned on and inserted into the wall socket. It says "unplug both." Nowhere does it say to plug into the wall or not to plug into the wall, but again, unplug both.
I did check the batteries more than once so the arch did not affect them. If it affected a circuit board would anyone know which one?
As for Wayne, a wonderful resource and I used him for this and for the Eaglemoss Build the Delorean. One minor problem, and their customer service has a dedicated person that knows the product they are selling, actually built one, and more importantly, helps, with any problems. World of Wayne is invaluable.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

I want to thank customer service and Mark. A customer service rep contacted Mark and he called me offering help. I was sort of blown away. Now this is customer service at its best.
